Tired of being used as armour, Jake convinces Finn to trade places.

Tropes

  • All Animals Are Domesticated: Jake pacifies some fire wolves by offering them steak-flavored kibble Finn had in his pocket... unfortunately for Finn, who then gets burned when the scorching-hot fire wolves lick and nuzzle him.
  • Basement-Dweller: Unlike his siblings, T.V. hasn't moved out of home and mostly sits around on the computer.
  • Big "NEVER!": When Jake threatens to drop him in a volcano if he doesn't concede the bet, Finn's response is a defiant "NEVER!"
  • Call-Back:
    • The Jake Suit makes an appearance again.
    • The Baby Finn rap from "Memory of a Memory" and "King Worm" reappears.
    • The Clown Nurses from "Another Way" provide Finn's final punishment.
    • The Squirrel from "Up A Tree" briefly appears, flying past the Tree Fort on his discus.
  • Clothes Make the Superman: Theme of the episode, played straight with Finn in the Jake Suit. Not so much the other way around.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The Clown Nurses from "Another Way" return.
    • TV (one of Jake's kids from "Jake the Dad") makes a speaking appearance.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: Even jumping into a volcano leaves Finn and Jake only with major but non-lethal injuries, so as you might expect, this trope is in full effect.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Jake forces Finn to read a long and dull book, though that backfires when Finn ends up getting into it. He also eats Finn's meatloaf and embarrasses him in front of Flame Princess' relatives.
  • Denied Food as Punishment: One of Jake's attempts at messing with Finn is making a delicious meatloaf and then eating it himself before Finn can take a bite.
  • Determinator: Finn will not give up, even when threatened with a volcano.
  • Feel No Pain: Subverted, Finn may not feel it while in the Jake Suit but Jake certainly can. Jake tries to pull this on Finn but he refuses to acknowledge it to win his bet against Jake.
  • Grand Theft Me: Invoked. Finn tells Jake to use his body like armor.
  • Groin Attack: While wearing the Jake Suit, Finn lands crotch-first on a length of fence. Then BMO smacks Jake in the "doggy-bag" with a piece of wood.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After everything that happens, Finn winds up injured and needing medical care... from the Clown Nurses.
  • Orifice Invasion: Sorta and willing in both cases.
  • Token Good Teammate: Flame Princess invites some of her "less evil relatives" over for dinner.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Finn stubbornly does all he can to refuse to prove Jake's point about taking damage while wearing one as a suit. Even when Jake threatens to throw him into a volcano. When Jake admits defeat and lets Finn wear him again, Finn's first act is to jump into the volcano for real this time, horribly injuring himself and Jake.
  • Unusual Euphemism:
    • Jake complains about getting hit in the "doggy bag" a few times.
    • "Björk" is used as a euphemism for a number of rude words.
