Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: Jake claimed to have snatched old ladies' purses and hocked stolen bicycles before he found out it was wrong to do such things.
  • Bad Guy Bar: The Candy Tavern is a run-down bar in a rough neighborhood, and a popular hang-out for Candy Kingdom criminals.
  • Big "NO!": Finn and Jake do a massive one when Tree Trunks tells them that without her special apples she can't make her apple pies.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Jake was once a thief who stole old ladies' purses and other kids' bicycles.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Finn manages to put together all the clues when he hears one of the Banana Guards say "This place could use a scarecrow."
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: Finn, Jake, Mr. Pig, Tree Trunks, and the Banana Guards all share a laugh after Tree Trunks offers to make some pie, then flirts with one of the guards.
  • Fed to Pigs: The criminals intend to do this to Finn, Jake, and Tree Trunks. The pig is highly reluctant to do so, and escapes with the others when a gang fight breaks out.
  • Lawful Stupid: Tree Trunks has herself arrested for stealing the apples that she thinks she stole herself and forgot.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Finn, Jake and Tree Trunks convince the Candy Tavern barman that they are different people, and criminals, simply by making themselves slightly scruffier.
  • Picky Eater: The episode kicks off after Finn convinces Jake to go to Tree Trunks's place for some apple pie after refusing to eat the Korean food that Jake made for lunch simply because it "smells weird".
  • Spy Speak: It turns out that "apples" is ne'er-do-well slang for diamonds in the Candy Kingdom.
  • Stunned Silence: Finn, both times Jake talks about his delinquent past.
  • Thieving Magpie: The apples turn out to have actually been stolen by magpies; most of the apples wound up in Tree Trunks' wardrobe after falling out of the magpies' nest and through a hole in her roof.
