Go To

Bran: Where are the rest of you?
Leaf: Gone down into the earth. Into the stones, into the trees. Before the First Men came all this land that you call Westeros was home to us, yet even in those days we were few. The gods gave us long lives but not great numbers, lest we overrun the world as deer will overrun a wood where there are no wolves to hunt them. That was in the dawn of days, when our sun was rising. Now it sinks, and this is our long dwindling. The giants are almost gone as well, they who were our bane and our brothers. The great lions of the western hills have been slain, the unicorns are all but gone, the mammoths down to a few hundred. The direwolves will outlast us all, but their time will come as well. In the world that men have made, there is no room for them, or us.

Daoine Sidhe: No living child of our race 'as been born into this century and no more will ever come. We know this. The years, they beat upon us like the ocean upon a stone... We are worn away.
Hellboy: That little girl's parents don't care.
Daoine Sidhe: More's the pity. Soon I think the king will gather us, and march us down into the shadows under the world where the old people go. Too late the sons of Adam will cry: "Where are the children of the earth?" Gone. Look for, but you shall not find them. Weep... for they are gone forever.
Hellboy, "The Corpse"

Though we bewail the end of English magic and say it is long gone from us and inquire of each other how it was possible that we came to lose something so precious, let us not forget that it also waits for us at England's end and one day we will no more be able to escape the Raven King than, in this present Age, we can bring him back.

Cryptos aren't common enough to make a living at this. I don't even earn enough to pay my rent most months. Not without a little extra help from a friend. It's just the way the world is going. Cryptos are just like any other animal: gotta have space to live. The more space we take up, the less for them. Some can adapt, but most are disappearing. Pretty soon, it'll be one bag a night. Not that that's a big deal either. The cognizant birth-rate's falling too, and in two or three hundred years no human alive will be able to understand magic. It'll probably always be around in some form, but who's going to notice? Probably be replaced by numerology, astrology, tarot cards, all those things humans like to think are magic but really aren't.
Monster Dionysus, Monster

Magic is the problem. We're not supposed to have it. They're going to close whatever loophole they left open that lets us use it. When they're done, it will go dead, not just here but everywhere, in every world. That power will belong to the gods only.

Star: Yup, yup, it's official. I hate magic! I'm... I'm gonna destroy it.
Glossaryck: What? And how are you going to do that?
Star: I could... I could say the Whispering Spell inside the Realm of Magic. (chuckles) Boom! It's the only way to stop Mina.

Hector Barbossa: The world used to be a bigger place.
Jack Sparrow: World’s still the same. There’s just… less in it.

The Twilight Age was a time when fantastic creatures no longer lived in great numbers.
