Taurus Bulba: No doubt you keep such poor company to have someone to listen to your dismal diatribes and declarations. But tell me, are you willing to die for them?
Darkwing: Gladly.
Darkwing Duck, "The Duck Knight Returns"

"Oh, dear God. Did my death mean anything? Did I help them save the world?"
[Beat]

Alistor: Your sacrifice will be remembered forever brother. There will be feasts in your honour Vormays, this I promise you, on my life and the honour of the Fire Beasts.
Vormays: That is of little comfort to me at all, Alistor. I'm not particularly fond of any of you. Try not to squander the death I will spare you today. Vormays out.

Ruby: I'll find them. I'll find Jaune and Pyrrha and bring them back.
Weiss: Are you out of your mind, Ruby? That's suicide! If you go back there, you—
Ruby: I'm sorry I wasn't a better leader, Weiss. Blake and Yang... they're really going to need you after this. A dependable leader, like you.
Weiss: Ruby, what are you saying?
Ruby: Take care of Yang for me.

Kara: I'm not giving them a choice. I'm going to launch the World Engine and jump us to another system. Zod and the others will follow us and we can lead them on a war-kite chase until we find a suitable planet for terraforming.
Kal: [frowning] And then what? Bygones become bygones and we all become one happy family with Zod?
Kara: No... I expect Zod will execute us both. This is the only way our people can begin anew and not at the humans' expense. I'm willing to give my life for that. Are you?
Kal: If it means Earth stays safe then yes.

The daughter of Vegeta, the cold and calculated man. The warrior's daughter. She would trade her life for his, for everyone's, and would do it without second guessing.

    Film — Animated
Stoick: Gobber, go with the men!
Gobber: I think I'll stay, just in case you're thinking of doing something crazy.
Stoick: I can buy them a few minutes if I give that thing something to hunt!
Gobber: [takes his hand] Then I can double that time.

"Look at me. I've become like all of you: savage, fear-ridden, selfish. A town of formerly good citizens turned into heartless freaks, bent on their own self preservation. We've become alienated from each other, each one of us an island onto themself, concerned only for ourselves. And in the name of all fish-hood, I am not about to let this happen. And so, if a sacrifice is needed to restore Bikini Bottom to its former glory, then I am willing to take one for the team."

Anna: Olaf, you're melting!
Olaf: Some people are worth melting for. Just maybe not right this second.

Elsa: You sacrificed yourself for me?
Anna: I love you.

Schmendrick: Not all the magic in the world can help her now.
Molly: Then what is magic for?! What is the use of wizardry if it cannot save a unicorn?
Schmendrick: [sadly] That's what heroes are for.
Lir: Of course. That's exactly what heroes are for. [he runs out and Takes The Bullet for his love]

Ursula: You see? The contract's legal, binding and completely unbreakable, even for you! Of course, I always was a girl with an eye for a bargain. The daughter of the great sea-king is a very precious commodity. But... I might be willing to make an exchange for someone even better. [...] Now, do we have a deal?
[Triton shamefully looks away as he uses his trident to replace Ariel's signature with his own]
Ursula: Ha! It's done, then! [Evil Laugh]
[Ariel is released from her power; she helplessly watches as her father is transformed into a rather sad-looking polyp]
Sebastian: [solemnly] Your majesty...
Ariel: [stunned] Daddy...?

Shrek: Stiltskin! I hear you're looking for me.
Rumpelstiltskin: Haha, alright! Finally! Who turned him in? Who gets the deal of a lifetime!?
Shrek: I do.
Rumpelstiltskin: What? B-But—
Shrek: Well, if I'm turning myself in, I get the deal of a lifetime. That means you have to give me anything I want.
Rumpelstiltskin: No, no, no, no! Only True Love's Kiss can break your contract! So if you thought you were just gonna "do-do-do-do-do" in here and get your life back—
Shrek: I'm not here to get my life back.
Rumpelstiltskin: Then what do you want?
[cut to outside Rumpelstiltskin's castle; almost all of the ogres that he held captive are teleported out]
Puss: The ogres! They're all free!
Donkey: But where's Shrek?
[everyone looks at the castle and realizes that Shrek stayed behind]
Puss: This is not good...

Gilotina: Surrender now, or the bitch dies.
Big Barda: No, Diana, let them kill me. Never surrender.

"We die so that innocents don't, it's as simple as that. When you put on the ring, the life you lead stops being your own."

Batman: He'll still be weak, between the nuke and so little sunlight. Just how weak we'll see when he finds my first surprise.
Robin: Yeah, but how long you expect to last against him?
Batman: Long enough.
Robin: Boss, I'm trying to get the plan here. I mean, you gonna die tonight or what?
Batman: Figure I will.

The Giant: Hogarth. You stay. I go... No following.
Hogarth: ...I love you.
The Giant: [remembering Hogarth's earlier words — "You are who you choose to be.."] ...Superman.

Taran: [preparing to throw himself into the Black Cauldron to end its evil] I must stop the cauldron.
Eilonwy: Oh, but Taran, that's impossible! Why you'd be— Taran!
Taran: I'm sorry, Eilonwy.
Eilonwy: Please, Taran! NO! You can't!
Taran: [determinedly] My mind is made up.
Gurgi: [suddenly blocking Taran] Wait, master! Gurgi not let you jump into cauldron.
Taran: Gurgi, get out of my way!
Gurgi: [standing on the edge of the ledge] No, master! Not go into evil cauldron.
Taran: If I don't, we're all lost! Out of my way!
Gurgi: No! Gurgi not let friend die! [sadly stands on the ledge] Taran has many friends. Gurgi has no friends.
Taran: [seeing what's about to happen] Gurgi, no! Don't jump! Wait! Don't!
[But it's too late; Gurgi jumps]
Taran: NOOOOOOOO!!!
[As Gurgi falls into the cauldron, it explodes and causes the fire and green mist emanating from the cauldron to be sucked back in]
Taran: Oh, no...

Steve Rogers: There's not gonna be a safe landing, but I can try and force it down.
Peggy Carter: I'll — I'll get Howard on the line. He'll know what to do.
Steve: There's not enough time. This thing's moving too fast and it's heading for New York. I gotta put her in the water.
Peggy: Please don't do this. W-we have time. We can work it out.
Steve: Right now I'm in the middle of nowhere. If I wait any longer a lot of people are gonna die. Peggy, this is my choice.

"Your mother convinced me to let her join me on my... missions. They called her the Wasp. She was born to it. And there's not a day that goes by that I don't regret having said yes. It was 1987. Separatists had hijacked a Soviet missile silo in Kursk and launched an ICBM at the United States. The only way to the internal mechanics was through solid titanium. I knew I had to shrink between the molecules to disarm the missile. But my regulator has sustained too much damage. Your mother, she didn't hesitate. She turned off her regulator and went subatomic to deactivate the bomb. And she was gone. Your mom died a hero."

Spider-Man: They're coming here because of me, right? Because I'm Peter Parker? So cast a new spell. But this time, make everyone forget who Peter Parker is. Make everyone forget... me.
Doctor Strange: No.
Spider-Man: But it would work, right?
Doctor Strange: Yeah, it would work. But you gotta understand that would mean that everyone who knows and loves you, we... we'd have no memory of you. It would be as though you never existed.
Spider-Man: I know. Do it.

Dormammu: You cannot do this forever.
Dr. Strange: Actually, I can. This is how things are now! You and me. Trapped in this moment. Endlessly.
Dormammu: Then you will spend eternity dying!
Strange: Yes, but everyone on Earth will live.
Dormammu: But you will suffer!
Strange: Pain's an old friend.

James Gordon: They'll hunt you.
Batman: You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me. Set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen.

Catwoman: Come with me. Save yourself. You don't owe these people anymore. You've given them everything.
Batman: Not everything. Not yet.

Hooper: YOU GOT ANY BETTER SUGGESTIONS?

The Emperor: His was the action of a hero.
Augustine: Oh, but the problem is that heroes always die.

"The greatest wizards alive can't kill maw-mouths, and they won't even try, because if you try and you don't kill it, it eats you and it keeps eating you forever. It's worse than being killed by a soul-eater and it's worse than bring grabbed by a harpy and taken to her nest to be eaten alive by her chicks and it's worse than being torn apart by kvenliks, and no one in their right mind would ever try it, no one, unless the girl you'd started dating a few months ago was going to die, her and someone you didn't even know, not even a person but just a blob of cells that had barely started dividing yet, and you stupidly cared about that enough to trade a million years of agony for theirs."
El Huggins, The Scholomance

James Moriarty: If you are clever enough to bring destruction on me, rest assured, I shall do as much for you.

Sherlock Holmes, "The Final Problem"

Arrow

Monitor: He fought to the last breath, knowing every moment was another life saved.
Supergirl: "Saved"?
Monitor: Your universe is no more. Of 7.53 billion, 3 billion souls made it to Earth-1 on the armada of ships. I calculate 1 billion souls survived due to his noble sacrifice.

Kara: Why did he give everyone else a second chance, but not himself?
Dig: Maybe this was the only way, Kara. Maybe his sacrifice made all of this possible. Him for us.

The Doctor: We beam all the people out of the data core, the computer will reset and stop the countdown. Difficult, Charlotte doesn't have enough memory space left to make the transfer. Easy! I'll hook myself up to the computer and she can borrow my memory space!
River Song: Difficult! It'll kill you stone dead!
The Doctor: Yeah, it's easy to criticise.
Doctor Who, "Forest of the Dead"

Three swimmers from the men's team were killed and two others are in critical condition, when, after having heard the explosion from their practice facility, they ran into the fire to help get people out. Bartlet, The West Wing, "20 Hours In America, Part II"

"You are the fourth Kamen Rider!"

'Twas seen there were but eighteen places to be manned

See ye return as quick as can be."

EDI: Shepard, I'm going to modify my self-preservation code now.
Commander Shepard: Why?
EDI: Because the Reapers are repulsive! They are devoted to nothing but self-preservation. I am different. When I think of Jeff, I think of the person who put his life in peril and freed me from a state of servitude. I would risk non-functionality for him, and my core programming should reflect that.

Avatar: For once, I'm glad you and I are the same. Now I can give my life to protect those I care for...
Grima: ...YOU WOULD...NOT DARE!
Avatar: I would and I will. The evils you would visit on this world are unthinkable... In some way, I—we share the blame. It's only right we meet our end together!
Grima: ...NOOOOOOO! [Grima vanishes; the Avatar begins to fade away]
Chrom: Avatar! No!
Avatar: Thank you, Chrom. For...everything... Tell the others...my last thoughts were of them... May we meet again, in a better life... [dissipates]

Firebrand: The military exists so you can ignore the harsh reality of the world.
Sweetie Bloom: What reality?
Firebrand: We're all going to die. Every day we desensitize ourselves with our YouTube, Anime, video games, books, all to do our best not to think about the ultimate truth that everyone spends their entire lives trying to ignore. The fact that everyone is suffering and everyone is going to die. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do. You and I have a 100% mortality rate. And war, it makes death happen much earlier than we want, which is why we hate it so much. It makes the reality of our limited lives become harder to ignore. No one wants to think about those things; everyone's natural instinct when confronted with danger or suffering is to run away. However, those who join the military, they have to run towards chaos and evil. They have to reject the illusion of safety and put themselves in danger to maintain our wistful fantasies of peace. They are required to embrace these worries and fears so you don't have to. They are forced to leave their families and travel to hostile lands thousands of miles away and fight the worst of humanity, just so you can pretend you're safe. That's the reason people in the military get so stressed and depressed, because they have to confront reality on a daily basis. That's why they deserve our respect. The military looks for those who are mentally and physically tough, strong of character, and show values of honor, courage, and commitment. Because of this, this is a job that not everyone can do, and not everyone should do. Freedom doesn't come free and never came free, and these are people who pay for that freedom with their minds, limbs, futures, and even their lives. This is a group whose actions have continuously extended far past the grave and affected all of us today, and I'm nothing if not proud to be a part of that legacy!

Ma-Ti: [dying] The needs of the many... outweigh...
Nostalgia Critic: ...the needs of the few.

"There's so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day. And because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They’ll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They’ll never know if the day was really saved. In the end... they just have to have faith. Ain't that a bitch?"
