The missile had nearly killed Godzilla, and in fact at first they thought it had — but it hadn't had any noticeable effect on Ghidorah, and Ghidorah had then proceeded to take command of more than a dozen Titans, many still in containment. The results were devastating, and it soon became clear that nothing in the human arsenal could stop Ghidorah, who seemed intent on stripping the world back down to its bedrock bones. [...] While many of the Titans — Godzilla, Kong, Mothra, Behemoth — seemed to be dedicated to preserving some sort of global balance — part of a failsafe system to keep the environment from going too far off of the rails — Ghidorah was certainly not that. If it had been able to continue on its rampage, projections suggested that the only thing left alive on the planet at this point would be Ghidorah and certain bacteria.

PROJECTION:
IF INTRUDER ORGANISM REACHES CIVILIZED AREAS...
ENTIRE WORLD POPULATION INFECTED 27,000 HOURS FROM FIRST CONTACT.

The first cracks started appearing about seventeen years after Project Cornucopia went underway. Pockets taken here or there were starting to build up, especially as we were creating larger, denser objects. On May 17th, Hawaii fell into the ocean. Two weeks later, half of Asia was buried in lava. It turns out the planet wasn't particularly stable, given that we'd accidentally used up huge swaths of the lower crust, and now half the world was falling into the mantle and the other half had the mantle erupting out. The only plus side is that the Star Wars conventions held some epic "Anakin Vs Obi-Wan" re-enactments, before the west coast melted.

X-57 is twice the size of the asteroid that wiped out the Earth's dinosaurs. It would be like millions of fusion bombs striking at once. With the heat of the blast, a thousand kilometers away, clothes would ignite. There'd be global wildfires. Air shock will flatten everything for hundreds of kilometers. Terra Nova will die, Shepard — not just our colony, the planet. There'll be a climate shift, mass extinctions, the ecosystem won't recover for thousands of years. Millions maybe.

Once the Walls of Paradis begin to walk, there will be nothing we can do except flee in vain from the sound of earthshaking steps that will herald our doom. These monsters will crush every city, trample every tree and flower. They will literally flatten our world.
