The College Tapes is the second spin-off series of the podcast The Bright Sessions. It centers around Caleb Michaels and Adam Hayes, two protagonists of the original show, during their senior year of college. It premiered on September 30, 2020 and ended on November 1, 2020. The episodes were all released in real time (in EST) along with the events in the show.
This podcast contains examples of:
- Affectionate Nickname: Though Mark has always disliked his legal first name, Byron, and even has reason to associate it with trauma, he seems to be alright with Oliver using it to refer to him.
- Mark calls Oliver "buddy" enough times throughout the show for it to be considered a pattern, and Oliver is noticeably upset when others call him this.
- Break the Cutie: Ben. They start off the series excited for college excited to finally be around other atypicals, and ready to take on the world; they end the series traumatized by their kidnapping, feeling like they’ll never feel safe again, and genuinely terrified of people knocking on the door.
- Cluster F-Bomb: Mark lets loose with one in "Omnis Abditus." Lampshaded by Oliver:Oliver: Hey, hey, hey! I don't think you can say "fuck" that many times in a professor's office.
- Good is Not Nice: Oliver is an asshole to everyone around him, but at the end of the day he is a good person and he does show genuine care for the other characters.
- Malicious Misnaming: Oliver frequently refers to Caleb and Adam as various incorrect names that are similar to theirs. Though it is mostly implied he is doing this on purpose there is still a chance he may not be.
