Basic Trope: Characters are depicted in an audience-pleasing manner. More often than not, this involves sensual situations.
- Straight: In Alice and Bob, Alice, who normally covers up out of shyness, attempts to both gain some confidence, and impress Bob, by wearing around him a low-cut top, no bra, and short skirt. Chaos ensues when she, frequently and unintentionally, flashes him her Goofy Print Underwear, and has an embarrassing Wardrobe Malfunction involving her top.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice is the media's Ms. Fanservice. If she's not naked, even in public, she's always wearing a cleavage-baring top and non-Magic Skirt, and is constantly in positions which flaunt her body. If the media is a book, the lust for her will drip off the page.
- The show Beach Patrol takes place at a beach, and all the characters are attractive men and women with fit bodies.
- Downplayed: In the first scene of the adaptation of Carol, a famous novel, Carol gets ready for work, chatting over the phone with her friend Betty. She strips out of her pajamas, hops into the shower, brushes her teeth in a Modesty Towel, and dresses in the outfit of a Sexy Secretary. Though her body is examined in exacting detail, it's only hot if you want it to be. She's doing what most other adults do every morning, not flaunting her sexuality.
- Justified: Alice, protagonist of In the Court of Bob, doesn't like being treated as a piece of meat—especially by the titular king—but she knows it's the only thing keeping her alive.
- Inverted:
- Fan Disservice
- Frisk and Brisky, a web series starring Alice and Bob as they get into the most sensual situations permitted by content guidelines, shakes things up with a video where they conceal every bit of skin, and enjoy a regular day, complete with dinner al fresco. Some fans are amused, some quite jarred.
- Subverted:
- In "Splashworks", an episode of I Lost My Gall a Long Time Ago, Alice, irritated by crowds at the titular water park, drags Bob in the early morning on the day after it's closed for the season. Squealing in glee after sneaking in, she squirrels off her shoes and socks, and yanks down her bottomwear, preparing for a skinny dip in the wave pool. At an inopportune time involving her crotch, she's cat-called by boys who also thought of sneaking in. She shrieks, and squeaking, "Not here, not here!", ferrets Bob far away, tripping over her bunched-up jeans.
- In "Stripshow", an episode of I Lost My Gall a Long Time Ago, Alice hangs around a convention centre for days, excited to attend the Tropeville Strip Show, which she believes is a strip show. When she gets in, she's beyond belief to learn that it's for fans of comic strips. Still, she has a wonderful time.
- Double Subverted: While at the strip show, Alice finds out about a strip in which an attractive man is regularly put into sexy situations. Think something like Sally Forth (Wood).
- Parodied: In the cult classic Erotic Frontier, Alice and Bob, on a journey through space as funny as it is titillating, visit Planet au Naturel—French accent mandatory. Walking along a scenic shopping street, the duo discover that payments are made in clothing; even the unhoused have tins stuffed with socks. They strain at the seams to be polite, having learned the hard way to respect other cultures, but this is too weird for Alice to keep herself in check. "You wanna see me naked?" she asks, grabbing the top button of her blouse. "You're gonna see me naked!" As exposed as most of the locals, she strides into a store, using her clothes to purchase whatever her anger-addled mind can think of. She receives a pair of briefs as change, and cameras catches her from every angle you can think of as she collapses to the floor, placing the briefs on her head, and groaning in defeat.
- Zig Zagged: In "Nottodayboys", an episode of I Lost My Gall a Long Time Ago, Alice takes a literal and metaphorical vacation from her raunchy antics. Most of the episode is completely clean, seeing her pack up, head to the airport, then get on a plane. She travels to New Orleans during Mardi Gras, and is dismayed to find that women are flashing their boobs to people on the streets for bead necklaces. "Does someone up there hate me, or something?" She groans in disgust, and flashes her own breasts to the camera, a Scenery Censor lasting for an agonizing second. "Hope you're satisfied, assholes! Gimme all the beads and free drinks I could ask for, and maybe, just maybe, I'll turn up the vulgarity dial to 'Adulthub'." Roll credits, with the first being, Sorryguyswelied
- Averted: There are no sexual situations.
- Lampshaded: "Loophole", an episode of I Lost My Gall a Long Time Ago, sees Alice, feeling particularly cheeky, believe she can get away with indecent exposure if she's at home, not out and about. She convinces Bob to spend a day naked on their balcony, pressing the flesh, flaunting their bodies to passers-by, and giving fans peeks through both the Male and Female Gaze. After being called out by an older woman, Bob awkwardly asks Alice what this is for. Wouldn't it be as satisfying if they went inside? "That's the point, dude! Who'd be able to see us, then?" She frowns. "Not unless a magic camera follows us indoors…"
- Invoked: In the raunchy comedy The Afternoon Snack Cabal, Alice, a shy, nebbish teacher at Bob Carol High, must supervise students in after-school detention, their punishment for being unruly during lunch. Initially, they refuse to listen, chatting loudly amongst themselves, then messing up the detention room. Knowing from both experience and her classes how hormonal teenagers can be, she walks up to the teens, sucks up the courage, and undoes her blouse, revealing her cleavage in all its glory. The teens gasp and gape in astonishment, and are audibly disappointed when she turns away, dressing again, and heading to the chalkboard. "I only did that to get your attention," she says, failing miserably to hide a smile. "If you wanna stay out of detention in the future—better, I hope, not fail in life—you'll see me as your teacher, not a pair of—pear with boobs. Understood?"
- Exploited: In "Stick Out", an episode of Unbeatable, Trope-Man goes on a date with Alice, a civilian he finds particularly attractive. Afterward, he's invited inside her house, discovering too late that it's also home to local menace Black Alice. While she undresses to have sex, and revs herself up, keeping her bedroom door open so that he can see, he gets ready as well, drawing things out so that he can learn what makes Black Alice tick.
- Defied: In "Nude Beach Episode", an episode of The Adventures of Alice and Bob, Alice and Bob arrive at a beach, excited to pieces to soak up some sun. Too late, they realize that nudity is expected, though not mandatory. As everyone around stares at his trunks, and her bikini, she drags him back to their car, crying, "Nuh, uh! I am not giving those sickos what they want!" Given how much they've lusted over the protagonists, fans quickly come to the conclusion that this was directed at them.
- Discussed: Alice is reading Carol for a literature class in university. Though Carol is described by words alone, she's one of the hottest girls Alice has ever seen. She draws fanart which puts Carol in tricky circumstances, accidentally giving her class a glimpse when she opens her computer to pull up a presentation. "What can I say?" she asks, blushing up a storm, after she's regained her nerve. "Amazing novel, amazing woman. No duh, I gotta give her some love."
- Conversed: In the seminal television series Yes, Madame President, Alice, designated survivor at a State of the Union speech, becomes the first female President of Tropania when every attendee is abducted by aliens. Forced into a position she's in no way prepared for, she and her team of ragtag advisors must reassure the nation, reclaim face abroad, and tackle the looming threat posed by the aliens. In "General Assembly", she rehearses for her first speech at the United Nations. While she mentally fears judgement by hundreds of other dignitaries, Bob, her mysterious Secretary of State, is skimming through a magazine. Annoyed, she leaves the lectern and grabs it, still rousing the "crowd". The speech is cut off when she discovers that the magazine is crammed with cheesecake.Alice: Time and place, you eerie, leery boob! We're not in one of those boring politics shows on HCN [Highbrow Cable Network], we are deciding how our country's gonna be defined for the next two years! Hell, an event like The Abduction—
[Bob chuckles and smirks, further pissing her off]
Bob: They're something else, though, those models, aren't they?
[Alice takes a gander. There are rapid cuts between some of the models, with Censor Shadows where necessary, and her increasingly worried expression.]
Alice: [narrating] I hated to admit it, but damn, was he right! This smut was criminal—like, dash-to-the-bathroom criminal. I almost thought it was sent by Chebysheva [Carol Chebysheva, the Russian President] to throw me off my game, 'cause God knew that if I were okay with stealing, I'd be occupied until T&T's speech. Past ours, even, if I went back for seconds.
[Alice nods, her defeated exhale making Bob smirk wider, and returns the magazine]
Bob: Mandatory in Government House, ma'am, fanservice. Makes gulping down the heavy stuff, especially the airstrikes, so much easier. - Implied:
- Although Alice never actually appears, characters always fawn over her attractiveness.
- A tender scene between Alice and Bob ends with the couple smiling at each other. Fade to Black, cut to the morning after, in their bedroom. A two-second shot shows off Alice's discarded bra, sunlight glinting off the clasp and strap adjusters. On the surface, it's shorthand for, "They just had sex," but anyone who cares to pause will notice that she's really as endowed as she seems.
- Deconstructed: Alice is actually a Reluctant Fanservice Girl and hates the fact that everyone only knows her for the fact that she is hot.
- Reconstructed: Bob sits down Alice, explaining that he understands her annoyance with always being seen as hot. He'd be peeved, too, if he was only ever told, "Nice ass!", "Love that junk! Does the carpet match the drapes?", or "Show me your pecs!" On the other hand, he says as she laughs, he can't help but love that such a wonderful woman is also attractive as fuck. Flattered enough to blush, she realizes that it could benefit her to treat her sexiness as a weapon, not a personal prison.
- Played For Laughs: In the movie My Date with the President's Husband, Alan starts a relationship with an attractive man named Bob, not realizing that he's the First Gentleman, cheating on President Player. Their first date sees Bob's expensive watch stolen by a two-bit criminal; as they fight to get it back, Bob is stripped naked piece by piece for silly reasons. For example, they stumble into a tailgate held by fans of the Blues, who steal his blue pants to use as a flag. Background gags, such as a flagpole being hoisted while Alan avoids checking out Bob's crotch, make it blatant that Alan is happy with what he sees.
- Played For Drama: The final episode of Magical Soldiers Alice Bob Carol sees the Soldiers and their allies race to stop Emperor Evulz from ravaging the planet with his Razer Laser. The climactic fight, between the Soldiers and Evulz, takes place inside his lavish bunker. He doesn't hold back, and he's armed with a bladed staff, meaning that as the fight progresses, the Soldiers suffer from more and more Clothing Damage. You're welcome to ogle their bodies, but you'll miss the bit where Soldier Bob unlocks his true potential—commonly agreed to be a Moment of Awesome—and where Soldier Carol commits a Heroic Sacrifice.
- Logical Extreme: Before its premiere, the writers of the adult television series I Lost My Gall a Long Time Ago publicly state that their guiding light has been "'Plot With Porn', Not 'Porn Without Plot'." They keep a list of fanservice-related tropes, but only invoke them as the plot demands. For example, Cat Fight appears when Alice pushes Carol past her Rage Breaking Point; Giving Them the Strip appears as Alice, cosplaying at a convention, races to escape a gang of fans she's angered; and Going Commando appears when Alice, exhausted by her new work schedule, walks around town in just a loosely tied bathrobe, regularly exposing herself.
