Basic Trope: A character with magic or similar powers finds themselves in another world where that magic no longer works, or works differently than they're used to.

  • Straight: When Alice the Witch goes to Bob the Mundane's native dimension, she finds there's no magic to draw from.
  • Exaggerated: Not only can Alice the Witch not use her magic in Bob's world, she is physically reliant on magic and risks sickness or death if she stays too long.
  • Downplayed: Bob the Mundane's world dampens Alice's magical powers, but she can still use them.
  • Justified: Alice draws from a Background Magic Field that just doesn't exist in Bob's dimension.
  • Inverted: Without any other magic users or beings competing for the Background Magic Field, Alice's powers are amplified when she travels to Bob the Mundane's dimension.
  • Subverted: Alice is worried she won't be able to use magic in Bob's native dimension, and prepares appropriately, but her spells work fine.
  • Double Subverted: Alice is surprised to find she can use magic in Bob's native dimension, but she soon burns through the area's miniscule reserves of magical energy and is effectively depowered.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Alice the Witch goes to Bob the Mundane's native dimension and slings her spells just fine.
  • Enforced: It's an Intercontinuity Crossover, and one of the major themes of Bob's universe is living in a universe where magic went away. Alice using magic in a world explicitly drained of it would be a continuity issue.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: Alice challenges Bob to a duel, and Bob agrees if he can choose the location. He naturally chooses his own world, intending to defeat the Squishy Wizard in a bare-fisted brawl.
  • Exploited: When Alice gets stuck in Bob's world and can't use her magic, Evulz sends some non-magical minions to take her out while she's weak.
  • Defied:
    • Alice brings a device that maintains a conduit between her world and Bob's, feeding her a flow of magic to use.
    • Alice injects herself with magic to be at full strength in all worlds.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Alice being separated from her magic is more than just an inconvenience. It's akin to the loss of a limb or a sense. She has to relearn basic skills where she'd use cantrips, and finds the entire experience eerie and traumatizing.
  • Reconstructed: Alice finds being separated from her magic terrible at first, but with Bob's help and patient tutoring, she relearns her skills. The experience helps her become a better witch, as she no longer takes simple things for granted and can be dangerous even if she is once again deprived of her magic.
