Playing With / Wounded Hero, Weaker Helper

Go To

Basic Trope: A hero, badly injured and in need of assistance, gets help from a weaker character.

  • Played Straight: Bob the Great is badly injured in battle and Alice, a village maiden with no combat experience, takes him in and hides him from his enemies until he is well.
  • Exaggerated: Bob the Great is injured so badly he lies on the verge of death for weeks and needs almost constant care from Alice, a sickly waif.
  • Downplayed: Bob the Great is badly injured and Alice, a strong young woods-woman, takes him in and hides him from his enemies until he's strong enough to be on his way.
  • Inverted: ???
  • Subverted: Bob the Great is badly injured in battle and collapses near Alice's house... But after a while, he manages to get up and continues on his way.
  • Double Subverted: But then a further skirmish leaves him even more badly hurt. Luckily, Delicate and Sickly Charlie, who lives nearby, takes him in and hides him until he is well.
  • Parodied: Alice and Charlie had it hammered in that they must help Bob when he needs it, to the degree that their insistence on "helping" usually causes him more annoyance than relief.
  • Zigzagged: ???
  • Averted: Bob never gets into a situation where he needs help from a weaker person.
  • Lampshaded: "I, the hero, still need help sometimes... Even from those who are weaker."
  • Invoked: Dracone, who isn't quite evil enough to want Bob dead, gathers the troops to go back to Emperor Evulz' fortress, knowing that Alice's home is nearby and Bob has just enough energy to crawl to it.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Emperor Evulz hunts down the injured Bob so he can't get help from somewhere else and recover.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: ???
  • Deconstructed: ???
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: ???
  • Played for Drama: ???
