• Basic: A character in pain thinks happy thoughts to feel better.

• Straight: After Bella's mission fails and her Love Interest Alex is killed by The Big Bad, she consoles herself by remembering her happy childhood.

  • Bella has to go fight The Big Bad again, and she has too much fighting to do to waste time being sad.
  • Bella's society praises apparent "emotional strength" and being a Stepford Smiler.
