Basic Trope: A user of marijuana, especially a heavy user.

  • Straight: Bob smokes a joint, and has a very laid-back demeanor.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is always baked, and has hallucinations (for some reason).
  • Downplayed: Bob occasionally gets high and is somewhat of a slacker.
  • Justified:
    • Marijuana use is associated with some aspect of a group that Bob identifies with (including, but by no means limited to: Hippies, students at a Berserkley, or just plain slackers.
    • Advertisement:
    • Bob is Rastafarian, and marijuana use is part of his religion.
    • Bob has been prescribed medicinal marijuana for eye problems, chronic pain, cancer, etc.
  • Inverted: Bob is Straight Edge.
  • Subverted: Bob is laid-back and cheerful, but it seems to be just part of his personality.
  • Double Subverted: It's revealed that Bob smokes marijuana every now and again, or that he used to use it but not anymore.
  • Parodied:
  • Zig Zagged: In some scenes Bob is stoned and others he's sober.
  • Averted: Bob doesn't smoke pot, or even mention it.
  • Enforced:
  • Advertisement:
  • Lampshaded: "You really like pot, don't you Bob?"
  • Invoked: Bob is offered pot at a party.
  • Exploited: The Big Bad of the series leaves out a thing of chips lure Bob into a very obvious trap.
  • Defied: Bob decides to stay above the influence because Drugs Are Bad, m'kay?
  • Discussed: "Bob, are you ever not stoned?"
  • Conversed: "I just know that Bob characters is going to wind up doing something stupid, stoners always do something stupid."
  • Implied: It's never stated that Bob does pot, but he's always hungry, lazy, his eyes are always red, and he's scared of cops.
  • Deconstructed: May be problematic if Bob spends more time smoking than doing anything productive. Although he certainly isn't as likely to become addicted to pot as he is to (let's say) heroin, it can still happen. Also, as the law stands now, marijuana use is illegal.
  • Advertisement:
  • Reconstructed: Bob smokes responsibly (i.e. not right before driving or making major decisions), and he leads a productive life otherwise. He is well-rounded, too, and does things with his friends other than just sit around and smoke pot.
  • Played For Drama: Bob is a listless burnout whose excessive weed usage has had a profound negative effect on his quality of life.

"Whoah, dude, you should like, totally go back to the main page."
