Basic Trope: A dying character tells someone to take care of their children.

  • Straight: Bob is dying and asks Charlie to take care of his children when he dies.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob has over 20 children and asks Charlie to take care of all of them.
    • Many characters die and ask Charlie to take care of their children.
  • Downplayed: Bob isn't dying, but is injured or is going to be away for a while, so he asks Charlie to take care of his kids while he's gone.
  • Justified:
    • Charlie is Bob's longtime friend. Bob trusts Charlie enough that he'll take care of them.
    • Charlene ('charlie' to her loved ones) is Bob's wife.
    • Charlie is dating Bob's only kid, saying this is quicker than to explicitly approve of it and given how little time he has left…
    • Charlie was a nearby stranger and Bob hoped he could be trusted to take care of his children.
  • Inverted: Bob is dying and asks Charlie to take care of his Elderly Parents when he dies.
  • Subverted:
    • It turns out it was part of Bob's prank.
    • It looked as thought Bob is dying and asks Charlie to take care of his children, but it turns out he was talking to someone else.
    • It's revealed that Bob doesn't have children.
  • Double Subverted: Eventually, Bob is in the verge of dying for real.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Bob doesn't ask Charlie to look after his children.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Bob was not aware that Charlie isn't good with children or has no desire to look after them because he is childfree.
  • Reconstructed: Nevertheless, Charlie tries his best to look after Bob's children for his sake. Or if he doesn't feel up to task in raising his children, he gives them up for adoption.
