Basic Trope: Made of Iron as a superpower rather than mere plot contrivance.
- Straight: Amazing Girl is Immune to Bullets, and Fire, explosions and a whole bunch of other stuff don't hurt her much either.
- Exaggerated:
- Amazing Girl is totally invulnerable, no "nigh" about it. There's not an attack in existence she can't No-Sell.
- The entire Amazing family has Super-Toughness.
- Amazing Girl is not only immune to damage, but she gets even stronger from it, and every time somebody or something tries to hit her, destroy her, or slow her down, even a black hole, she becomes overall stronger.
- Downplayed:
- Amazing Girl can shrug off anti-personal rounds, but anti-material rifles can hurt her and a nuke will definitely kill her.
- Amazing Girl's skin is Immune to Bullets, but her innards aren't. Hit her hard enough, enough times, and the shock will turn her internal organs to mush.
- Justified:
- Stone Cold is not unusually tough for solid rock… but he is, y'know, a guy made of SOLID ROCK.
- Amazing Girl is a gynoid with skin made of anti-ballistic material.
- Stone Cold is running on pure adrenaline.
- Amazing Girl has some kind of involuntary telekinetic power, which generates a force-field around her body to deflect anything that might possibly harm her.
- Inverted:
- Amazing Girl can hit obscenely hard, but is easily hurt by a stiff breeze.
- Shatterpoint has the ability to make other things vulnerable.
- Made of Air
- Subverted:
- It looks like Amazing Girl has Super-Toughness, but it turns out she just regenerates so fast that bullet wounds are healed faster than they are made.
- Amazing Girl is a Master of Illusion, and when it appears that she was bouncing bullets off her chest, it was just a cleverly disguised pole.
- Double Subverted:
- She has his powers drained, and it turns out she's still tougher than any human has a right to be.
- The real Amazing Girl also has Super-Toughness.
- Parodied:
- Amazing Girl is invulnerable, but is still somehow terrified of everything.
- Amazing Girl is an Iron Butt-Monkey, and it's a good thing she can't be hurt, as the poor girl would be dead within the hour.
- Amazing Girl is incapable of realising she's been hit, and only reacts with "what was that?" when she's hit in the back with a thrown bus.
- Zig Zagged: Amazing Girl has powers over density, and so she can have Super-Toughness or be Made of Air as she wishes.
- Averted: Superhuman durability never shows up as a power.
- Enforced: No Superman Expy would be compete without this power and a bunch of others.
- Lampshaded:Elsatolass: Can you be hurt?
Amazing Girl: Nope.
Elastolass: "Huh." - Invoked: Amazing Girl performs a long series of experiments to make herself super-tough, and succeeds.
- Exploited:
- Exploited Immunity.
- Eat the Bomb
- Amazing Girl regular bathes in lava, skydives without a parachute and eats poison, revelling in the fact these things don't hurt her.
- To figure out Amazing Girl's Secret Identity, Emperor Evulz breaks in to her day job and fires a machine gun at every employee. If it hits Amazing Girl, it'll bounce off and he will have found his nemesis. If it hits a civilian… Well, that's not his problem.
- Defied: Everyone can choose their powers, but due to the large array of One-Hit Kill weapons running around, no-one bothers with Super-Toughness as they'd just get killed immediately anyway.
- Discussed:
- "I may be able to shoot lasers and fly, but I'm just as killable as the average joe. If I was invulnerable I probably wouldn't look remotely human."
- "Honesty, as far as superpowers go, being invincible is a pretty good one. Doesn't seem to have a whole lot of drawbacks compared to actually killing friends with affection or feeling the immense pain whenever you regrow a limb.
- Conversed: Welp, she can't be hurt. Those mooks are screwed.
- Deconstructed:
- Amazing Girl's invulnerability prevent her from cutting her hair or nails, making her look like a freakish monster woman. She can't feel anything on her indestructible skin, and lives to see what few friends she had left wither away and die. In the end, she's driven to constant suicide attempts in an effort to end it all, or at least to feel something, ANYTHING.
- Amazing Girl can't be hurt, and so she's almost impossible to fight head on. This just makes the villains get clever however, and they resort to Xanatos Gambit after Xanatos Gambit, meaning that despite her best efforts they still win anyway. She's eventually shoved into the core of the earth, unable to do anything except wail in frustration until she's pushed out of it again.
- Amazing Girl is a Single Power Superhero, and while she can take a hit, she can't actually stop the villains from doing anything, making her rather ineffectual.
- Amazing Girl's invulnerability makes physical attacks harmless, but when she ends up with a medical condition that could be fixed by surgery, she's out of luck.
- Reconstructed:
- Amazing Girl has a Kryptonite Factor, and she uses a razor made of it to shave and cut her hair. She's still kinda peeved about not being able to feel anything, but if she's really that sad about it she still has an out.
- Amazing Girl is still a very savvy opponent, and so finding ways to trap her that she hasn't countered is difficult.
- Unable to hurt her opponent with her power, Amazing girl gears up with an obscene number of handguns and grenades, and serves to distract the villains while her friends beat the crap out of them.
- Played For Laughs:
- Amazing Girl has Super-Toughness, but her costume does not. Her fights alternate between her charging in screaming, and her running away screaming when her outfit explodes.
- Amazing Girl doesn't have any super-anchoring powers, and is sent flying into the horizon every time she's hit.
- Played For Drama:
- Being unable to be hurt starts distancing Amazing Girl from humanity, and she's driven to depression due to questioning why she even bothers protecting the Puny Humans that die when sneezed on.
- Alice has Survivor Guilt from her Traumatic Superpower Awakening, due to surviving a train crash when her family did not.
- Implied: Amazing girl is both Ambiguously Human and Made of Iron: it's unclear whether her toughness is due to an inhuman nature, or simply because she's that brawny, but she is very hard to hurt either way.
Back to Super-Toughness.
