Go To

Basic Trope: An outdated building used as (part of) a school.

  • Straight: The main building of Troperville High School was built in the the 1900s.
  • Exaggerated: The school consists of only a pre-revolutionary building from the mid 18th century.
  • Downplayed: The school has several buildings, and one of them was built in the postwar era.
  • Justified:
    • The school is located in a relatively poor city which can't afford to upgrade or replace the old building.
    • The school-building is a registered historic landmark, they'll have to relocate if they want a better building.
  • Inverted: The school has a building that was built in The Mid 2010s.
  • Subverted: The school only looks old, but it was actually built recently and made to look old.
  • Double Subverted: The new school turns out to be a reconstruction of an old school, which was destroyed in a natural disaster.
  • Parodied: The school dates back to the first days of human civilization.
  • Zig-Zagged: The school has buildings built from various different time periods, from The Gilded Age to the 21st century.
  • Averted: The school is neither old nor new, having been built in The '80s.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "Dang, Principal Troperman, this building is so old I swear its gonna collapse on itself any second.
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: Charlie is a Teen Hater who plans to make Troperville High's oldest building collapse with a hundred students inside of it.
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: "Wow, our school is very old…" "I wonder if my grandparents went here."
  • Conversed: Alice and Bob talk about how they're worried about how Troperville High's old building may collapse on the students in their favorite series The Tropeman Show.
  • Implied: The school is said to be "very old", but isn't discussed further.
  • Deconstructed: Due to the school being very old, it begins to fall apart, with students being put in danger by ceiling tiles, as well as a general degradation of the structure due to bad weather.
  • Reconstructed: However, it gets renovated, and the very old school is now safe for students to attend.
  • Played for Laughs: The old building was a medieval castle.
  • Played for Drama: ???
  • Played for Horror: The school is used as the setting for a ghost story.
