Basic Trope: A pharaoh is used as a villain.

  • Straight: In a work set in Ancient Egypt, a villain is a pharaoh.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: A pharaoh is a Jerkass but not so much a villain
  • Justified: The pharaoh doesn't care about morals.
  • Inverted: A pharaoh is the main hero or Big Good, or at least a Reasonable Authority Figure.
  • Subverted: A pharaoh turns out to be a Well-Intentioned Extremist.
  • Double Subverted: Minus the "well-intentioned" part.
  • Parodied: A history professor takes a blow to the head, and starts dressing like a pharaoh to commit burglaries.
  • Zig Zagged: A Pharaoh enters a Heel–Face Revolving Door
  • Averted:
    • There are pharaohs, but they're not villains.
    • There are no pharaohs.
  • Enforced:
    • The writer hates pharaohs.
    • It's a version of the Exodus story, told from the Jews' standpoint.
  • Lampshaded: "Why are pharaohs evil?"
  • Exploited: The Pharaoh is a Jerkass, but not the kind of evil that's a major threat to anyone. His Evil Vizier, on the other hand, is taking advantage of the Pharaoh's 0% Approval Rating to pull of his own evil plan while remaining a Villain with Good Publicity himself.
  • Defied: At his coronation, the new Pharaoh vows to be a kind and benevolent ruler to his people.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: The Pharaoh is The Dreaded, but it is never confirmed if he is really evil.
