Basic Trope: A male character who provides viewers with eye candy.

  • Straight: Bob, a fairly muscular character, strips down at least thrice per season.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Bob keeps his clothes on, but said clothes consistent of a kilt, short shorts, tank top, or pretty much anything that shows off his physique without being explicit.
  • Justified:
    • Bob is presented with valid in-universe reasons to disrobe, i.e. a shower scene, putting on a disguise, being in the changing room, or because he can't fly with his clothing covering his wings.
    • Bob comes from a tribe that requires a great physique to survive, and it's more pragmatic to lose your shirt and get away than to stay modest and risk death or capture.
    • Bob has a career that requires a decent physique, i.e. model, athlete etc.
    • Bob is extremely vain and loves showing off his good looks.
  • Inverted: Bob is a Mr. Fan Disservice.
  • Gender Inverted: Ms. Fanservice.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted: However, after he recovers, not only is it shown that he is incredibly attractive, but he ends up with a cool scar on his abdomen, making him even more attractive and more interesting.
  • Parodied:
  • Unparodied: Bob rips his shirt off every minute he is on screen, even though the show takes place in Alaska... of course, the warmer parts of Alaska.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob is unbuttoning his shirt, but changes his mind and he does up the buttons. He goes to change his shirt. He rips the shirt open, only to reveal he's wearing two shirts at once. No skin is shown whatsoever. He then spills water on himself, but nothing is showing. He covers himself in a towel, his shirts still on.
  • Averted: Bob doesn't provide any fanservice.
  • Enforced: "We're looking to appeal to both demographics, so let's have Ms. Fanservice get her counterpart."
  • Lampshaded: In-universe, a few girls gawk over how sexy he is, and show the protagonists (and the audience) a picture of him.
  • Invoked: "Bob, I'm gonna take off your shirt now." — "OK."
  • Exploited: Bob, in a rare male case of Screw the Rules, I'm Beautiful!, uses this to flirt with a desk secretary into giving him valuable, classified information.
  • Defied: "Bob, take off your shirt and tell us." — "Nah, I don't want to give you or those crazy fan girls any ideas."
  • Discussed: After a session of working out, Bob comments "What do you think the girl who lives next door will think when she sees us?"
  • Conversed: "Yeah, he's in the TV show just to keep my 15-year-old daughter entertained."
  • Deconstructed:
    • The writers deliberately make Bob more attractive... but he's also kind of a dick, indicating that just because a man's attractive doesn't mean he's necessarily the best choice as a partner.
    • Bob's status as his team's eye candy is frequently used, such as flirting his way out of a jam or sleeping with someone. This is something he greatly dislikes, and it's a source of friction within the team.
    • Bob is married to Alice, and the fact that every woman is interested in Bob's physique leads to Alice becoming very jealous.
  • Reconstructed:
    • It turns out that Bob is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, and his love interest helps to smooth out his edges.
    • Bob learns that sometimes, dangerous situations require doing things one might not like. He can tolerate being treated as eye candy if it means a terrorist plot can be stopped.
    • Alice understands that despite the fact that Bob could have any woman he wants, he chose her and is faithful to her, strengthening their marriage. She also knows that Bob works hard to look good because he wants to look good for her.
