Basic Trope: A villain is sent to dispatch the hero, with the advantage of having most or all of the same powers.

  • Straight: Bob fights Butch, who is either a clone of Bob or someone with the same abilities as Bob.
  • Exaggerated: Bob and Butch are exactly alike, to the point that they both think the other is the Evil one.
  • Downplayed:
    • Butch has powers and style reminiscent of Bob, but not exactly alike.
    • Evulz doesn't play fair and also sends Carol the Cutter to stab him in the back while he is occupied fighting Butch.
    • Bob and Butch both share a lot of similar attacks and techniques with each other and they may even derive their powers from the same source, but they also both have their own unique moves that the other doesn’t have.
    • Demonic Spiders with similar abilities to those of the player.
  • Justified:
    • The Big Bad is a demon bringing out the heroes' inner evil.
    • Butch is a clone of Bob.
    • Butch can copy his opponents’s abilities and fighting skills, so fighting Butch always feels like you’re fighting yourself.
    • Bob and Butch are not human. They’re members of the same species, and they both have the same powers/abilities because those are inherent to their entire race as a whole, not just them.
    • Bob and Butch both studied under the same school of magic or martial arts, and both learned under the same masters and mentors, so it makes sense that they would have similar attacks, abilities and fighting styles.
  • Inverted: A new hero appears with powers very similar to that of one of the currently established villains.
  • Subverted:
    • A new villain appears who looks or acts like Bob, but Butch's powers are actually completely different.
    • Their powers are the same, but come from different sources and have different uses: Bob gets his Playing with Fire from magic while Butch gets his from well-developed chemical technology.
    • Butch turns out to be controlled by another player, and he started to behave differently after tricking Bob.
  • Double Subverted:
    • It turns out Bob could do what Butch does too if he just applied his powers differently and vice-versa.
    • But then player who controls Butch suddenly decided to mimick every single movement of Bob.
  • Parodied:
    • Bob and Butch not only have the same powers, but keep finishing each others' sentences, have the same catch phrases, and yell at the other to stop copying them.
    • Emperor Evulz claims to have sent in "Bob's most hated arch nemesis"... Before swiftly taking off a tarp, revealing a Bob sized mirror, and gaslighting Bob that his reflection is actually "Butch" and not Bob himself. This leads to Played for Laughs.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Every character has unique personalities, styles, and powers.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded:
    • Butch steps out of a magic mirror.
    • "Talk about fighting fire with fire..."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: No one knows how to effectively beat Bob, so the Big Bad sends Butch to fight him, intending to copy Bob's method of victory should he defeat Butch. If Butch wins, nothing to worry about.
  • Defied: Lord Evulz considers it but dismisses it as a waste of time.
  • Discussed: "What are you, my evil twin?"
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Butch and Bob start to fight, but things quickly get nasty; as they both have the exact same powers, neither side can actually win this fight, leaving them locked in a perpetual stalemate.
  • Reconstructed:
    • The Big Bad sidesteps the above issue by making Butch stronger than regular Bob, giving him the advantage.
    • The other heroes likewise sidestep the above by lending Bob a hand.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob doesn't realize that "Butch" is just his reflection and will die by trying to attack his reflection.
