Basic Trope: A container happens to hold a smaller version of the larger container.

  • Straight: Alice finds an object which she opens to find much smaller objects.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice keeps opening the objects and uses more sophisticated technology to open the smaller objects until she starts working at sub-atomic levels.
    • Alice steps into a Bigger on the Inside building, and uses her Reality Warper powers to teleport the building's exterior into itself. Therefore, the building doesn't just contain smaller versions of itself; it literally contains itself (a Recursion). How many times you go through the door doesn't matter; you're still in the same point of spacetime... even though you're not in spacetime.
  • Downplayed: The object has onion-like layers.
  • Justified:
    • Each container requires a different key - whoever put this thing together really wanted to control who had access to whatever is inside.
    • Tropeville's museum contains a scale model of the village that includes a scale model of itself and (some of) its contents.
  • Inverted: The containers somehow become bigger as Alice removes different layers.
  • Subverted: Larger containers are placed in smaller containers
  • Double Subverted: Eventually, each container stops growing and becomes small again.
  • Parodied: "Wait, this treasure chest has another, smaller chest inside it, and then another, even smaller one inside of it."
  • Zig Zagged: The containers within the larger container keep changing.
  • Averted: A hollow Russian nesting doll can't even open.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "Alright, so we get ready to do this again and again until we get a really tiny one. You know, like a Russian nesting doll."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
