Basic Trope: The sky represents things pertaining to the divine.

  • Played Straight:
    • A character refers to God by facing towards or gesturing to the sky.
    • The work describes or indicates that God lives above the mortal world.
  • Justified: "God" is a Sufficiently Advanced Alien from another planet, arriving from the sky in a spaceship.
  • Inverted: Characters treat the ground as if God lives in it.
  • Subverted: God is mentioned and the camera pans up as if in response... only for it to turn out it was panning up to blasphemous skywriting.
  • Parodied: God is portrayed as a tired old man who is sick at having people yell at him from thousands of miles below him.
  • Deconstructed: A character is so busy gesturing or talking to the sky during a moment of prayer that they get hit by a truck.
  • Reconstructed: A character injured while staring at the sky in prayer wakes up and finds that the injury resulted in their prayer being answered, prompting them to look up and say "Thank you."
  • Averted: God just walks up to talk to people, no dropping out of the sky or anything.
  • Enforced: The work is written in a country with strict blasphemy laws, so God doesn't directly appear and characters just talk into the sky to interact with him.
  • Implied: ???
  • Logical Extreme: The sky is God.
