Playing With / Handsome Heroic Caveman

Go To

Basic Trope: The Hero is a caveman protagonist who, in modern eyes, is conventionally attractive.

  • Played Straight:
    • Oog'Troo is a a muscular and tall caveman who fights for his tribe and Princess Mala'Perr.
    • The modern protagonists meet Oog'Troo, a time displaced caveman who is a clean-shaven and muscular Hunk. With him by their side, they fight crime.
  • Gender-Inverted: The Warrior Princess Mala'Perr herself looks exactly like a Victoria's Secret model in a Fur Bikini.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Oog'Troo's appearance maps closely to modern standards of Ridiculously Average Guy compared to the rest of his tribe, though not to the extent that he doesn't look out of place.
  • Justified:
    • Oog'Troo is an anatomically modern human, and there's no reason for him (or anyone in his tribe in particular) to look any different from the modern baseline. He just happens to map closer to modern ideals of attractiveness.
    • Corollary to that, a lifetime of hard physical labor means that Oog'Troo and members of his tribe would be quite fit, which alone maps to the standards of physical beauty people have today.
    • Oog'Troo's tribe have aesthetic standards similar to many modern humans.
  • Subverted: When the modern protagonists encounter Oog'Troo, he looks like a disheveled, ugly, and very intimidating stereotypical caveman, who otherwise means them no harm and is willing to fight for their cause.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Inverted:
    • Doug is an otherwise ordinary modern office worker who looks like a Frazetta Man.
    • Oog'Troo is a villainous handsome caveman.
  • Parodied:
  • Invoked:
    • Aesthetic considerations and physical fitness are important to the Oog'Troo's tribe, and they should at the very least be well-groomed and fit.
    • Out-of-universe, Oog'Troo is a mascot for a line male skincare products, evoking caveman imagery to make their product more masculine.
  • Exploited: Oog'Troo's modern friends get him a job as a male model to help him blend in.
  • Defied:
    • Cavemen all look like Frazetta Men.
    • Cavepeople are depicted realistically, with standards of beauty that won't necessarily map closely with modern ideals.
    • The Hero is not a prehistoric human.
  • Conversed: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Deconstructed:
    • The protagonist's prehistoric tribe is portrayed realistically. When the modern protagonists encounter Oog'Troo and his tribe, they learn that what constitutes physical beauty for any gender in their society doesn't map at all with modern conceptions of beauty.
  • Reconstructed:
    • That doesn't stop anybody in the group (or the audience) who likes unkempt guys or Amazonian beauties from thinking they're hot, though.
  • Played for Laughs: ???
  • Played for Drama: ???
