Basic Trope: Spanish is thrown in the media, usually for comedic effect or to teach viewers Spanish.
- Straight: Bob meets a his friend Carlos, a guy from Colombia who speaks with a heavy Hispanic accent and refers Bob as an 'amigo.'
- Exaggerated: Literally every new person Bob meets is a Spanish speaker.
- Downplayed: Carlos is Hispanic-American and very occasionally slips in Spanish words in his speech, but otherwise sounds and behaves mainly in an American manner.
- Justified:
- Carlos' native tongue is Spanish so he naturally would use Spanish words in his speech.
- Carlos doesn't know English all too well, so it makes sense his speech would consist mostly of Spanish.
- Inverted: Gratuitous English
- Subverted: Bob is taking a walk when he hears someone talking in what seems like Spanish, but it was actually Greek!
- Double Subverted: … but later he sees Cubans speaking Spanish nearby.
- Parodied: A lesser known language like Urdu or Lithuanian is treated as important as Spanish in Bob's world.
- Zig Zagged: Bob sees people speaking in Spanish, Armenian, and English.
- Averted: Carlos doesn't know English at all, so his speech is just Spanish.
- Enforced: The writer wants to add comedic effect or teach the viewers Spanish.
- Lampshaded: * "I feel like I see Spanish speakers everywhere."
- Invoked:
- Carlos naturally moves to USA from Colombia, so he will arrive using lots of Spanish.
- It adds to the Spexican theming of La Tasca Bonita
- Exploited: Bob uses Carlos to teach him Spanish.
- Defied: A law in the USA deports Spanish speaking immigrants.
- Discussed: "I know how you feel with how often Spanish is forced onto you Bob. I'm from Ukraine and my native tongue is Ukrainian, but Russian is forced onto our country's citizens."
- Conversed: "Why does many media feel the need to use Spanish in the work?"
- Implied:: Bob tells Alice he met people from all over the world, including Ukraine, Colombia, Italy, and Pakistan, but none of these people are shown on-screen and are just mentioned.
- Deconstructed: Bob has a desire to learn Spanish, but he discovers it was too hard for him to learn and he fails Spanish lessons.
- Reconstructed: Bob still listens to lots of Spanish music anyways.
- Played For Laughs: As Alice and Bob were watching their favorite show, The Adventures of Sam The Skunk, Bob accidentally presses a blue button on his remote, and switches it to Spanish, and he and Alice spend time trying to switch it back to English.
