Basic Trope: A character is turned on by another character's intelligence, rather than by their looks.
- Straight: Alice and Bob, after a conversation at the dinner table that included quantum mechanics and references to Sci-Fi, decide that they were the perfect match.
- Exaggerated: After said conversation, Bob proposes to Alice right on the spot.
- Downplayed: They agree to another conversation a week later.
- Justified: Alice has sapiophilia, and Bob is one of the most intelligent characters in the story.
- Inverted:
- Alice is very much disgusted at Bob's superior knowledge, being The Ditz and all.
- Alice is turned on by Bob's athletic ability.
- Aroused by Idiocy.
- Subverted: Alice later reveals she was feigning her love of Bob because she didn't want to sound stupid.
- Double Subverted: She does say she "felt something" when Bob said "See ya, Space Cowgirl."
- Parodied: An entire dating website measures how geeky someone is, what their knowledge of obscure shows is, how close they live to major conventions...
- Zig Zagged: Alice is struggling throughout the story to pick Brainy Bob or Sporty Sam. Bonus points if, at the end, she decides to take the female equivalent of the Casanova approach.
- Averted: Alice and Bob do not attempt to make moves on each other.
- Enforced: "How about we put something to make the geeks in our audience feel they can get a girl?"
- Lampshaded: "After that Star Trek reference, I feel we were made for each other."
- Invoked: "Well, if you're not concerned with how attractive she looks, she is also one of the few Straight-A students in this school."
- Exploited: There is a lucrative dating website designed entirely to pair off nerds.
- Defied: Alice, uncomfortable with dating a geek (for fear of being bullied), attempts to break up shortly after the relationship is established.
- Discussed: "Do geeks ever find love?" "Well, Bob's gone and gotten himself married to a fellow otaku."
- Conversed: "Why would anyone be turned on by knowledge?" "Ever heard of Cleopatra?"
- Implied: When Bob sees Alice's Star Trek shirt, he gets a big smile. Alice shyly smiles back.
- Deconstructed: There is more to a relationship than liking the same show. Alice and Bob's relationship falls apart due to personality differences.
- Reconstructed: Geekiness got Alice and Bob together, and is a good source of fun, but is not the basis of their relationship.
