Basic Trope: A character, especially someone such as a non-human or superhero, goes as themselves in an occasion where one would wear costumes.
- Straight:
- Archer the tiger-man decides to go as himself on Halloween.
- Troperman is a superhero who goes as himself to a costume party.
- Exaggerated: Archer, Troperman, and a whole bunch of other non-humans and superheroes go as themselves to costume parties. Nobody suspects a thing.
- Downplayed:
- Archer goes as a weretiger for Halloween - all he has to do is wear ripped clothing.
- Troperman goes as his comic book equivalent's costume.
- A Human Alien wears an alien costume resembling Little Green Men.
- Justified: Halloween and other costume events are one of the few times that characters such as monsters and superheroes can walk around as themselves without being questioned, and if they're lucky they may even be complimented on their "costumes". May as well take the opportunity.
- Inverted: Bob, who's wearing a Troperman costume at a comic convention, gets mistaken for the real Troperman and dragged into a crime-fighting adventure by another member of the League of Heroes.
- Subverted: Archer the tiger-man tries to sneak into a furry convention by pretending to be wearing a fursuit. The people inside immediately realize that it's not just a costume.

- Averted: Nobody ever goes as themselves on Halloween.
- Enforced: Troperman is goaded into attending a costume party as himself.

- Exploited: A group of monsters pretend to be people dressed in monster costumes in order to invade a costume party (or at least fit in).
- Defied: Troperman absolutely refuses to use his regular costume as a Halloween costume (dammit, it's the one night in the year he can pretend to be someone else, right?) and dresses up as Millennium-Man (same powerset, gonna give you that, but he's from a comic book).
- Discussed:Bob: "Wow, that's such a realistic costume! Good work!"Archer: "Uh... thanks!"
- Conversed: "You'd think someone would realize that's not just a guy dressed as a tiger, but an actual tiger-man."
