Basic Trope: A whole episode is taken through the perspective of someone's fever-induced hallucinations or nightmares.

  • Straight: One episode of The Alice and Bob Show, Alice has an ambiguous disease that's not serious enough to put her in hospital, but is serious enough to make her hallucinate, so she hallucinates that Bob is an alien and she's in a psychedelic jungle.
  • Exaggerated:
    • This happens to the entire cast.
    • The whole show is like this.
  • Downplayed: The hallucination takes up only a single scene.
  • Justified: Alice has an infection that is making her delirious.
  • Inverted: In one episode, everyone else is hallucinating due to a disease which Alice, The Medic, is immune to and trying to treat. While the others describe/act out their trips, we see how Alice sees it, which is just normal except for a whole lot of sick, confused people.
  • Subverted:
    • We then see a scene through Bob's perspective, trying to help Alice.
    • It turns out that Alice's hallucinations were not from the disease, but rather from the medications she was taking.
    • It turns out that Alice was not hallucinating: she really was in a psychedelic jungle, and that really is an alien who just talks like Bob and thinks Alice is sick due to not understanding about humans.
    • It turns out that Alice is not sick at all: the alien in her "hallucination" was sending her messages telepathically.
    • Then Alice wakes up. She freaks out about the fever, but then Bob just looks confused. Turns out, the fever was All Just a Dream and this was not a Fever Dream Episode, but rather a realistic Normal Dream Episode.
    • It turns out that Alice does not have a fever, she's just high.
  • Double Subverted:
    • Any of these turn out to be hallucinations.
    • The medication caused additional hallucinations.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zigzagged: Alice appears to be hallucinating that Bob is an alien and she's in a psychedelic jungle...then that turns out to be true...which is just a hallucination...because Alice was drunk...then she starts seeing aliens...that turn out to be real...but the whole thing was just a dream...but not a fever one.
  • Averted:
    • Nobody gets sick.
    • People get sick, but don't hallucinate or have nightmares.
    • People hallucinate and/or have nightmares, but never due to illness.
    • People hallucinate and/or have nightmares due to illness, but it never takes up a whole episode.
  • Enforced: The writers wanted to do a propaganda about vaccines.
  • Lampshaded: "Now I'm seeing jungles... what do I have?!"
  • Invoked: The villain deliberately infects Alice with the trip virus.
  • Exploited: The villain can manipulate Alice or have her out of the way if she's like this.
  • Defied: Alice immunizes herself against all diseases that cause delirium.
  • Discussed: "No way I'm touching that! What if it's covered in germs that will make me see you as an alien or whatever!"
  • Conversed: "Alice's nightmares in that episode were no worse than the nightmares it gave me! The fact that it was because she was sick just makes it worse!"
  • Implied: ???
  • Deconstructed: While Alice experiences terrifying hallucinations, her friends fight off actual monsters, and worry about her deteriorating health.
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: ???
  • Played for Drama: What Alice has could be potentially fatal or lead to permanent damage.
