Basic Trope: Food as arbitrary collectibles.
- Straight: In Jackass Ape Nation, bananas are the primary collectible item. Collecting them doesn't really do anything but grant you an 1-Up for every hundred collected and increase your score.
- Exaggerated: Every collectible is some sort of food, no matter their function in gameplay. Health packs, weapons, ammunition, etc.
- Downplayed: Those bananas aren't actually edible, but they're still bananas, and you have to collect them for whatever reason.
- Justified:
- Bananas are the official currency in Jackass Ape Island, so it makes sense to collect them, since you need those to purchase items and stuff.
- King E. Vulz did a sloppy job at stealing Jackass Ape's banana stash, so he ended up accidentally leaving a trail of them behind.
- The bananas aren't ripe yet, you can't eat them yet, but your saving yourself the trouble of having to search for them this summer when everyone else will be after them.
- Inverted: You play as a giant living banana, and you need to collect monkeys.
- Subverted: In Jackass Ape Nation, the primary collectible items are banana...shaped coins.
- Double Subverted: Chocolate banana-shaped coins.
- Parodied:
- Collectibles consist of bananas, banana pies, banana bread, banana smoothies, banana splits, banana meat...
- Jackass Ape hates bananas, or is otherwise allergic to them, so collecting them all is a suffering experience to him.
- All collectibles are comestible, including the ones that shouldn't be, like money, guns and other inorganic objects.
