Playing With / Dragged Off to Hell

Go To

Basic Trope: A person gets sent to the bowels of Hell.

  • Straight: After his defeat, Bob gets dragged bodily into Hell.
  • Exaggerated: In a fight scene where Bob and his Evil Minions fight the heroes, Bob causes an explosion that sucks all of the characters in the vicinity into hell, heroes as well as villains. (Of course, what with all these characters now trapped in hell, this variation sounds much more like the beginning of a adventure than this trope's more common use as an ending to the villain's story.)
  • Downplayed: Bob's last words imply that he's seeing Hell and his soul is being pulled there, though this may just be a horrific Dying Dream.
  • Justified:
    • Bob made a Deal with the Devil.
    • Alternatively, hell is a place where sinners go. This is where Bob ends up after living a life of crime.
  • Inverted:
  • Invoked: The hero breaks the villain's amulet, and the effect is to break all the villain's spells and send him to hell.
  • Defied: The villain substituted an artifact that simply kills the hero who breaks it.
  • Exploited: A Hell Seeker breaks Bob's amulet, and hitches a ride down.
  • Subverted: The hero breaks an amulet, thinking it will break all the villain's spells and send him off to hell, but what actually happens is that the villain turns into a One-Winged Angel demon and fights the hero.
  • Double Subverted: The demon can only survive outside hell for a few minutes. After one last destructive rampage, it does get dragged off to hell, never to be heard from again.
  • Parodied:
    • The villain is dragged off to hell...and then we clearly see that he is now living in Russia.
    • The villain ends up in Hell, Michigan...which was their hometown.
  • Enforced: The villain and his Black Magic are so evil that nothing less could be bad enough for him, karmically speaking.
