Basic Trope: The protagonist's Love Interest has a disability.

  • Straight: Bob falls in love with Alice, who is blind.
  • Exaggerated: Alice, Bob's love interest, is blind, deaf, mute AND wheelchair-bound.
  • Downplayed: Alice is colorblind.
  • Justified: Bob has a soft spot for people with disabilities, but doesn't want that to be the main reason he is dating Alice.
  • Inverted: Bob is the one who is blind.
  • Subverted: Alice's vision problems are due to her wearing a blindfold.
  • Advertisement:
  • Double Subverted: It's not until Bob takes off the blindfold when he realizes that Alice is actually blind.
  • Parodied: Alice claims to have a disability, but she's just lazy. Yet everyone acts as if she's horribly disabled.
  • Zig Zagged: Alice starts out without a disability, then gets shot and paralyzed from the waist down. Then nano-machine technology fixes her up, but she then suffers an injury to her eyes making her blind.
