Basic Trope: A villain with relations to the Dark.

  • Straight: Emperor Evulz is the Big Bad and commands the power of dark.
  • Exaggerated: Emperor Evulz is the Obviously Evil lord of darkness and everyone whom uses Black Magic instantly turns evil is so evil that everything within sight dies.
  • Downplayed:
  • Justified:
    • He's a Demon.
    • He grew up somewhere dark and scary.
    • The story is about Good vs Evil and dark is associated with evil in most cultures.
    • Emperor Evulz is a vampire, and thus spends most of his time in the dark.
    • Emperor Evulz uses fear as a weapon. Now what's scarier to most people; light or darkness?
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • Despite wearing black, he has connections with the Light.
    • He's a good guy with the powers of dark.
    • He undergoes a Heel–Face Turn and keeps his dark powers.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied: Lightbulbs die the minute Emperor Evulz is even mentioned.
  • Zig Zagged:
    • Emperor Evulz frequently switches superpowers and only sometimes commands shadows.
    • Or, Emperor Evulz is a Heel–Face Revolving Door, switching between being a villain and a hero every other episode, whilst keeping his powers of darkness.
  • Averted:
    • Despite his signs of dark, he isn't good or evil.
    • No one wears black or has dark-related powers in the series.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "That Emperor Evulz guy loves to wear Black a lot."
  • Invoked: "We have to make it REALLY obvious who is the villain here. Give him a completely pseudonym with dark or shadow in it and Dark related powers."
  • Exploited: Knowing that black magic intimidate people, Emperor Evulz makes sure every spell he cast is dark themed.
  • Defied:
    • A person with a mean streak receives dark-based superpowers and vows to try to be nicer to live up to their new abilities.
    • He's the Token Good Teammate on the side of evil.
  • Discussed: "Yep. The guy known as Dark Bob is Obviously Evil."
  • Conversed: "Shadow powers again? You're not very imaginative, are you? Originality can be nice, you know."
  • Deconstructed:
    • Whenever Dark Bob with his nickname and shadow powers, people tend to avoid or even ostracize him, because everyone is already aware of this trope. Not only when he is trying to take over the world, but also when he tries to go shopping.
    • Many villains possess powers of dark, causing everyone with dark powers to be immediately assumed evil.
  • Reconstructed:
