Basic Trope: A character who likes to cuddle.

  • Straight: Alice is affectionate, and likes to show her sweet side by hugging.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Alice likes cuddling, but doesn't love it.
  • Justified: Alice is very affectionate or a little kid.
  • Inverted: Hates Being Touched
  • Subverted: Alice is actually feigning affectionate behavior as part of a setup.
  • Advertisement:
  • Double Subverted: But she then receives the idea of affection in friendship and becomes cuddly.
  • Parodied:
  • Zigzagged:
    • Alice sometimes loves giving hugs, other times Hates Being Touched depending on her mood.
    • Alice likes to cuddle some people/things, but not others.
  • Averted: Alice does not like cuddling, or, No Hugging, No Kissing played literally.
  • Enforced: The anime company enforces Rule of Cute elements to market towards it's demographic.
  • Lampshaded:
    • "Alice cuddles all the time."
    • Alice: "I'm a hugger. I think of it as a full-body handshake."
  • Invoked: Alice becomes The Heart of a Five-Man Band, hugging them in celebration after a victory or to cheer them up after a defeat.

    • The cats like being cuddled, so they like Alice.
    • Alice discovers her recipient's liking to hugs, and uses it to befriend them.
    • Bob knows Alices loves a hug, and uses it to borrow her wallet.
  • Defied: Alice may be affectionate, but she tries not to start a hug.
  • Discussed: "Why does Alice cuddle so much? Sometimes people don't like cuddles."
  • Conversed: "Some characters are just too cuddly."
  • Deconstructed:
    • Alice unwittingly hugs an ill person who is contaminated and becomes ill as well.
    • Alice hugs someone who Hates Being Touched and lashes out at her.
  • Reconstructed: She becomes more cautious of who she can hug.
