Go To

Basic Trope: A piece of media gets obviously (and awkwardly) censored due to copyright issues.

  • Straight: Alice censors a clip of Alice Reviews due to a DMCA violation, but it's obvious that something has been cut.
  • Exaggerated: Alice censors people even referencing the clip due to a DMCA violation.
  • Downplayed: Alice only does the bare minimum to avoid a DMCA violation.
  • Justified: While the video must be censored, the dialogue that plays over the scene (which is not from the video) is important enough to the plot that the entire scene cannot simply be cleanly removed without creating a Plot Hole.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice adds a clip due to a DMCA violation.
    • Alice is the rights holder and files a DMCA violation against Bob for using her material without permission.
  • Subverted: Alice gets a DMCA violation, but just re-uploads the video.
  • Double Subverted: Only to censor it later.
  • Parodied:
    • Alice only flips the footage.
    • Alice censors the entire video.
  • Averted:
    • No DMCA violation occurred.
    • Alice edits the clip well.
  • Lampshaded: "I hope I don't have to edit anything."
  • Enforced: This trope is always enforced.
  • Defied:
    • Alice makes sure to get permission from the rights holders before including any copyrighted material.
    • Alice only includes content which she created herself and/or content which is in the public domain.
  • Exploited: Alice thinks the rights holders are being over-zealous, so she deliberately does a botch job of editing out the material as a gesture of protest.
