Go To

Basic Trope: A parody of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

  • Straight: In an episode of a cartoon, Alice, Bob, Claire, Danny, and Edward tour a candy factory. Bob won the final ticket, the tour guide is a cryptic, energetic nutcase, the workers are short and speak in rhyme, and along the way, Danny falls into a lake of chocolate, Alice turns into a giant blueberry, Claire gets thrown into a trash chute by squirrels after she wanted to adopt one, and Edward gets shrunk.
  • Exaggerated: The dialogue matches the dialogue in the book almost exactly, Bob becomes broke and all of his grandparents move in with him just for the sake of the parody, and Bob even ends up winning inheritance of the factory at the end.
  • Downplayed: Alice, Bob, Claire, Danny, and Edward tour a normal candy factory, but the tour guide is a parody of Willy Wonka.
  • Justified: The tour guide deliberately designed his factory to be like Willy Wonka's and modelled his behaviour on Willy Wonka.
  • Inverted:
    • A cartoon set in Willy Wonka's factory has an episode parodying a sitcom.
    • The cartoon has episodes parodying every Roald Dahl book except Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
  • Subverted: Bob wins the final ticket to a tour of a candy factory and expects it to happen like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but it doesn't.
  • Double Subverted: ... Until Danny falls into a vat of melted chocolate and the workers start singing about it, that is.
  • Parodied:
  • Zigzagged:
  • Averted: There are no Charlie and the Chocolate Factory references.
  • Enforced: "We've done plenty of kids' book parodies, so why not Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?"
  • Lampshaded: "Haven't I read this in a book once?"
  • Invoked:
  • Exploited:
  • Defied: The tour guide refuses to do anything Wonka-like.
  • Discussed: "I went on a tour of a factory last week and it was just like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!"
  • Conversed: "This show has done lots of kids' book parodies. I wonder if they'll do Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
  • Implied:
  • Deconstructed: The Wonka-like tour guide is sued for putting kids in danger and selling dangerous candy (such as the "stick-jaw for talkative parents").
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs:
  • Played for Drama:
  • Played for Horror: A Dark Parody of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that kills off the naughty kids.
