Playing With / Can't Act Perverted Toward a Love Interest

Go To

Basic Trope: Those falling in love won't perform perverted or crude actions that they would with anyone else.

  • Straight: Alice won't peep on Bob, because she loves him, but will peep on Charlie, whom she does not love.
  • Exaggerated: Alice becomes Purity Personified around Bob, but is a total pig with everybody else.
  • Downplayed: Alice may still make passes at Bob, but they're generally less boorish and more sweet.
  • Justified: Alice fell in love with Bob because of who he was, and does not value Charlie in the same way, merely seeing Charlie as eye candy.
    • Charlie she lewdly propositions because whether or not it results in a one night stand isn't a deal breaker to her. But blowing her chance with Bob terrifies her.
  • Inverted: Alice peeps on Bob, whom she loves, but not on Charlie, whom she does not.
  • Subverted:
    • Alice peeps on Bob but keeps it a secret because she's in love with him.
    • Alice is actually not interested in Bob, and only seeks a relationship with him for appearance sake, while seeing men like Charlie on the side.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied: Alice is an absolute hoebag who acts like a good Catholic girl around Bob.
  • Zig Zagged: As double subverted, but then she later sheepishly admits that she got off on the spying.
  • Averted: Alice peeps on both Bob, whom she loves, and Charlie, whom she does not.
  • Advertisement:
  • Enforced: "We can't have Alice act all dirty towards Bob! It'll make The Reveal all weird.
  • Lampshaded: "Boy, Bob. You're lucky she loves you. My bum is getting sore from getting pinched so much."
  • Implied: Alice acts flirty with every character except Bob who she seems a bit nervous around. People debate if it means this or if he is related and embarrassed about her brother showing up where she is being lusty.
  • Invoked: Bob likes Alice and thus purposefully avoids perving on her so as not to drive her away.
  • Exploited: Alice realizes that Bob likes her because he acts like this towards her, and sets him up in situations with her as a way of flirting back.
  • Defied: Alice acknowledges her feelings for Bob, and proceeds to capture his heart and sleep with him.
  • Discussed:
Bob:"Why? Why does she always ignore me for you, Charlie!?"
Charlie:"Bob, man, you are, like SO BLIND."
  • Advertisement:
  • Conversed: "I'm never sure if a girl flirting with everybody except for the quiet one means they are supposed to be repelled or attracted to him."
  • Deconstructed:
    • Alice's behaviour is ultimately hypocritical and the gesture is more lip service than anything else.
    • Alice's lack of outward sexual attraction to Bob convinces him that she doesn't see him as a potential romantic partner. He starts dating other women in an attempt to get over his love for Alice, which breaks her heart in turn.
  • Reconstructed:
    • Alice, by making the effort to be decent toward Bob, learns the value of being decent toward everyone else as well.
    • Bob recognizes that there's more to a relationship than sexuality, and while he doesn't realize Alice likes him back immediately, her reluctance to be lewd to him does keep him interested enough for them to eventually admit their feelings for each other.

Head on back to Can't Act Perverted Toward a Love Interest... But keep in mind I wouldn't do those things to my lover.

How well does it match the trope?
