Playing With / Big Jerk on Campus

Go To

Basic Trope The most handsome and popular guy in High School. He’s also the a huge Jerkass to those less popular than he is.

  • Straight: Bob is the meanest and most popular guy in school, who bullied poor Charlie mercilessly.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is a despicable, narcissistic Sociopathic Barbaric Bully who is willing to downright murder those who so much as insult him, but everyone stills adores and envies him, and his bullying is actually seen as compliments that he even knows of your existence.
  • Downplayed: Bob doesn’t bully anyone, he just snubs and scoffs at the losers and acts like they don’t exist.
  • Justified:
    • Bob’s good looks and natural talents meant he’s had everything handed to him on a silver platter, and never learned how to be nice to people to get them to like him, since they’ve always automatically liked him because of his looks and skills.
    • Bob’s dad is an even bigger brute to Bob, leading him to take out some of his frustrations on his classmates.
    • Bob was bullied by the last Big Jerk on Campus. Now that he’s on top of the totem pole, it’s his turn to reap it’s benefits.
    • Bob honestly believes that those without talent and good looks are worth less than himself and his own fellow popular kids, and sees himself and his popular, good-looking friends as proof.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • Turns out, Bob has legitimate grievances against Charlie, possibly of his own making, and that why he bullies him.
    • Bob is a popular and aggressively-mean Nerdy Bully.
    • Bob is handsome and mean, but this makes him the least popular guy in school instead of the most.
    • It’s all a front. Bob’s confidence and jerkiness is to hide his insecurities.
  • Double Subverted:
    • But Charlie only did that to get back at Bob for an even worse thing Bob did to them in the past.
    • Then Bob gets into sports and/or music, and becomes a traditional Big Jerk.
    • Then Bob brainwashes the school into adoring him and continues being a jerk.
    • But it’s all an act by Bob to get people’s sympathy.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Bob is of normal temperament.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "Jeez, Bob! What’s your deal? You’re such a jerk."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: The school staff takes action to teach children equality and acceptance to prevent them from letting popularity go to their heads.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed:
