Basic Trope: A monster is scary-looking, but actually friendly.

  • Straight: Dracone is a frightening monster that is later revealed to be Good All Along.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Dracone isn't necessarily that scary-looking, but is a bit nicer than one would think he is.
    • Dracone isn't malicious but is more of a jerkass.
  • Justified: Appearance says nothing about someone's personality.
  • Inverted: Dracone is an adorable creature that is revealed to be evil.
  • Subverted: The "Good All Along" was an act. Dracone is actually evil.
  • Double Subverted: He later undergoes a Heel–Face Turn, though.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: Various monsters are seen; some of them are scary and/or friendly, and some of them aren't.
  • Averted: There aren't any monsters in the work.
  • Enforced: "We need to add An Aesop on acceptance for others regardless of appearance. Maybe we can add a frightening monster that turns out to be nice."
  • Lampshaded: "You know, he looks scary, but he really is just a big softie if you actually get to know him."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: Dracone plays up the "scary-looking monster" bit in order to scare away a group of bullies who were picking on a kid.
  • Defied: All monsters in the setting are evil.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played for Drama: Dracone tries to make friends and even volunteers to help out in the community, but each time, he is treated with revulsion for his monstrous appearance. He never stands up for himself because he knows that it will just cause the people around him to think that they were right about him. After putting up with it for years, though, he's had enough of it and decides that Humans Are the Real Monsters for not even questioning their own prejudices, so he might as well become the monster that they made him out to be.
