  • Straight: Bob falls asleep during his Physics class.
  • Exaggerated:
    • The whole class falls asleep during the lesson.
    • Bob falls asleep every lesson.
    • Bob sleeps all through the day and has to be waken up after the classes.
  • Downplayed: Bob looks notably drowsy, but doesn't fall asleep.
  • Justified:
    • The class is really boring.
    • Bob hasn't had enough sleep at home.
    • Bob is naturally a Sleepy Head.
    • It's a last class, and Bob is tired after a tough day.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob is Sleep Learning, and suddenly wakes up during his "lesson".
    • Bob wakes up at night and thinks he has to go to school, for some reason.
    • The teacher falls asleep during the lesson.
    • Bob's teacher shows up in his bedroom in the middle of the night.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob falls asleep but the the teacher or a classmate wakes him up.
    • Bob isn't sleeping, just daydreaming.
  • Double Subverted: ...but falls asleep again.
  • Parodied:
    • Bob goes into a coma during the lesson.
    • Bob treats his desk like a bed and carries a pillow, a sheet, and a blanket to school.
    • Bob has slept for fifty years, until an old cleaner wakes him up.
    • Bob has somehow Slept Through the Apocalypse in class.
    • Bob only goes to school to have a good sleep.
    • The more time Bob spends sleeping during a given class, the better he does in it.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Bob falls asleep, then wakes up. But sleeps again when the teacher resumes the lesson.
    • Bob falls asleep in some lessons and stays awake through others.
  • Averted: Bob never falls asleep in class or always has enough sleep.
  • Enforced: "We need to show that Bob is a Sleepy Head." "I know! Let's make him fall asleep in class!"
  • Lampshaded: "Is Bob sleeping in class again?"
  • Invoked: Bob likes to stay up late for whatever reason, knowing that falling asleep in class wasn't that bad.
  • Exploited: Alice knows that Bob likes to doze off and doesn't wake him up so she can beat Bob.
  • Defied: Bob drinks coffee to avoid falling asleep in class.
  • Discussed: "Bob likes to doze off in class. Is he having enough sleep?"
  • Conversed: "Bob's a sloth, he must be falling asleep in class."
  • Deconstructed: Bob's habit of falling asleep makes him unable to follow lesson in school, resulting in bad grades and not graduating.
  • Reconstructed: Then Bob finds out that sleeping more makes him capable of absorbing more lessons.
  • Played for Laughs:
  • Played for Drama: Bob's habit makes him alienated by his classmates. Bob feels disgusted with himself and made him The Woobie.
  • Implied: The lesson in which Bob falls asleep happens offscreen, while he and/or other characters talk about it after the fact.

Now, let's go back to Asleep in Class. Hey, are you dozing off again?
