Basic Trope: An episode set on April 1.

  • Straight: One episode of Alice and Bob is set on April Fools' Day.
  • Exaggerated: A "Groundhog Day" Loop of April Fools' Days.
  • Downplayed: At the end of the episode it's the morning of April Fools' and Alice is just beginning to think up a trick.
  • Justified: April Fools' Day does happen.
  • Inverted: In a show about April Fools', one episode is on a regular day.
  • Subverted: Alice is seen pranking Bob and shouting "April Fools'!!", but Bob says, "Alice, you got the date wrong."
  • Double Subverted: It was Bob who got the date wrong.
  • Parodied: Even the serious characters are playing pranks.
  • Averted: There are no April Fools' plots.
  • Zig-Zagged: Alice and Charlie are playing pranks on Bob and Denise and claiming it's April Fools'. Bob and Denise think it's not April Fools'. It is never revealed whether it is or not.
  • Enforced: April Fools' Day is the last interesting observance in the West to which the writers of Alice and Bob haven't yet devoted an A-plot.
  • Lampshaded: "April Fools'!!"
  • Invoked: Characters go to the joke shop during the March 29–31 period in preparation for a day of pranks.
  • Exploited: On April Fools' Day, The Prankster can use their shenanigans to get revenge on their enemies and a laugh from their prank-appreciating friends.
  • Defied:
    • All the characters are Properly Paranoid about everybody else planning practical jokes on them for April Fools' Day, so they lock themselves in their own houses/apartments with all the supplies they need for the day.
    • All the main characters are children whose parents/guardians and teachers strictly forbid practical jokes, especially on April Fools' Day.
  • Discussed: "It's April Fools' Day, Charlie, so what tricks should I play on Bob?"
  • Conversed: "This episode will be funny—it's set on April first!"
  • Implied: Characters are seen playing pranks, but it's unknown why.
  • Deconstructed: Alice and Bob undergo a Feud Episode as Bob didn't think Alice's trick was funny.
  • Reconstructed: Hey, April Fools' Day is all about tricks!
  • Played for Laughs: Everyone is having fun doing practical jokes, until noon, when Alice plays a joke, Bob says "Joke's on you", and then it's an "Everybody Laughs" Ending.
  • Played for Drama: Alice must save the day after doing an Almost-Deadly Prank.
  • Played for Horror: The Monster of April Rising is reborn and preys on Troperville's children on April 1.
