Basic Trope: An offer that has dire consequences if one doesn't accept.
- Straight: Emperor Evulz tries to get the protagonist, Hiro, to allow him to marry the Love Interest. If Hiro doesn't accept, he will be killed.
- Exaggerated: Emperor Evulz will destroy the whole universe if he doesn't get to marry Hiro's love interest.
- Downplayed: Emperor Evulz threatens to harm Hiro if he doesn't allow him to marry the love interest.
- Justified: Evulz didn't have any other way to get Hiro to accept his offer.
- Inverted: If Hiro declines the offer, he gets rewarded.
- Subverted: Evulz reveals he was lying when he threatened to harm Hiro.
- Double Subverted: ...He's actually going to harm the love interest.
- Parodied: Evulz tries to invite Hiro to his birthday party in this way.
- Zig-Zagged: ???
- Averted: There is no offer.
- Enforced: A way to show that Evulz has crossed the Moral Event Horizon, especially if he actually succeeds in killing somebody.
- Lampshaded: Hiro agrees under protest that it's not much of a choice. Evulz tells him that was the whole idea.
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: ???
- Defied:
- Evulz realizes that this kind of action is too low, even for him.
- Hiro makes damned sure, before approaching Evulz, that he has the power (political or through superior weapons) to force Evulz to accept him backing down from any potential bad deals.
- Discussed: "And then he told me that if I didn't allow him to marry her, he'd kill me."
- Conversed: "I wonder why villains often make threatening offers like that."
