Pantheon / Insanity

Go To

Originally part of the House of Emotion, the House of Insanity was separated as the various manias and delusions of the residents began to distort the house. The house is one of (if not the most) chaotic houses in the pantheon, due to its Acid-Trip Dimension of asylums and crooked buildings. It's like something out of Otherness Abominations, but rather than being an outright affront to natural law, it's shaped by the madness of its inhabitants.

Currently located on the edge of Delirium's realm, with the Eye of Terror visible in the sky. The gods here aren't bothered because of their various manias. The deeper you go, the more you are at risk of going mad, especially psychics. Anti-psychosis medication and mental guards are a must, and a top team of very sane psychiatrists are protecting those inside and outside.

Also it has to be said... This is not Sparta. THIS! IS! MADNESS!!

Heads of the Asylum

    Alexandra Roivas
Alexandra Roivas, Goddess of the Sanity Meter ("Alex", Miss Roivas)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alexandraroivas.png
  • Lesser Goddess
  • Symbol: The Tome of Eternal Darkness
  • Alignment: Neutral Good
  • Portfolio: Action Girl, Has a degree in abstract mathematics, Inheritor of the Tome of Eterna Darkness, Reads story of other bearers of the Tome, Sdrawkcab Name, Magic Knight
  • Domains: Sanity
  • Allies: Buffy Summers, The Hunter, Wilson, Roahm Mythril
  • Enemies: Cthulhu, The Old Gods, Eldrazi, Giygas, the Great Ones, Slender Man, The House of Abomination in general, Nyarlathotep, the Godhand, Death Phantom, Kel'thuzad, The Lich, Ragyo Kiryuin, The Gatherers, Saya
  • High Priest: Daniel
  • Heralds: Dr. Edward Roivas, Ellia, Anthony, Karim, Dr. Maximilian Roivas, Dr. Edwin H. Lindsey, Paul Luther, Roberto Bianchi, Peter Jacob, Michael Edwards
  • Alex (and the bearers of the Tome) have faced the Ancient's minions which affected their sanity, likely the fact that they couldn't comprehend their existence. Should they be driven to their lowest level of sanity, everything goes to hell around them, even the fourth wall begins panicking.
  • Because she has fought the Ancients in order to save her world, she couldn't stand the other Eldritch Abominations as it could drive her mad as well.
    • She found Slender Man to be the most frightening if just looking at him catches his victims.
  • She isn't the only one who could be stressed by the unknown, Wilson feared that his sanity will break from the dark and bad food which the Shadow Creatures will get him. She pities him as she had to read through the Tome and almost broke her sanity from excessive reading for weeks and even months.
  • From the Tome, she could cast Magick which requires rune of various properties and one of the four Ancient runes: the rune of Chattur'gha, Ulyaoth, Xel'lotath, and Mantarok. Chattur'gha represents strength, Ulyaoth represents soul, and Xel'lotath represents mind, with Mantarok represents Chaos and is the most powerful than the three Ancients. Such spells include enchanting weapons, recovery, revealing invisibility, create a damaging barrier, dispelling, shields, magical attacks, and summoning and controlling monsters. In order to power them up further, she requires additional PARGON.
  • She managed to befriend Buffy as they both found that are alike in being normal school girls being forced into fighting supernatural beings that'll threaten the entire world. Alex could relate to how Buffy imagined herself in an asylum as she learned how her ancestor, Maximilian Roivas, was sent to an asylum when he tried to warn the world about the Ancients.
  • She found another companion known as the Hunter who have slain Eldritch Abomination without their sanity breaking down. Although she is a bit suspicious of him when there was one timeline when the Hunter became the Moon Prescence.
  • Because her main enemy, Pious Augustus, was a lich who tried to summon his Ancient master to his universe, she doesn't like any of the liches in the Pantheon.
    • She also doesn't like humans (or at least former humans) who want to destroy humanity for the master as the bearers of the Tome have struggled against Pious Augustus and the Ancients. She called them all out for shedding away their humanity and sacrificing the human race who are too stubborn to die.
  • She found the Gatherers to be as frightening as the horrors that served the Ancients. The fact that her high priest, Daniel, have nearly lost his sanity from looking at these beasts doesn't help her case.
    • There is a case of her losing sanity from looking at any sort of horror like Saya who could drive anyone insane by just looking at her. She tried to kill them and finish them in order to regain some sort of her sanity but since she has a spell to regain her sanity, it is not needed but she would think about the idea if needed.
  • She doesn't like deities that are capable of breaking one's sanity or manipulated the health of a mind, as one of the Ancient, Xel'lotath, whose minion can easily destroy sanity quickly.
  • Also in the House of Gaming.

    Delirium of the Endless
Delirium of the Endless, Deified Mad Goddess (Mania, formerly Delight)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/delirium_by_saowee_9.jpg
  • Overdeity
  • Symbol: Something... whatever it is, it causes splitting headaches if looked at.
  • Alignment: True Insane (effectively all alignments and none of them)
  • Portfolio: Mad God, Anthropomorphic Personification, Was Once Delight, Knows The Paths Beyond Destiny's Garden, Youngest of the Endless, Reality Warper, Cloudcuckoolander, Went Mad From The Revelation, Mind Rape, Drives Like Crazy
  • Domains: Happiness, Madness, Sanity, Illusion, Knowledge
  • Followers: Anyone who has spent time in an asylum and honestly belonged there. Especially those who have been able to rejoin society afterwards.
  • Allies: Dream, Death, Desire, Destruction, Destiny, Despair, Mister Mxyzptlk. As for everyone else, it varies depending on her mood.
  • Pitied by: Many of the (non-evil) deities, as she literally can't stay sane without hurting herself.
  • Opposes/Likes: Can oppose or like any member of the pantheon depending on her mood. Being a personification of insanity makes staying consistent very difficult.
  • Conflicting Opinion: Desire. While the two don't always get along... they're still family.
  • Feared by: Roscoe P Coltrane
  • There are seven beings beyond the gods, representing endless concepts, the youngest of these is Delirium. Initially, she was Delight, embodying joy and happiness (and, if so, its mirror concept, sadness and melancholy). However, something happened that fundamentally changed her nature and drove her mad, becoming Delirium and embodying madness, insanity and delusion (and conversely defining sanity). Dream made sure to get his sister in the Trope Pantheon soon after it was founded.
  • It is rumored that she went mad from "knowing too much." Few are sure what that means, and if they do, they're not telling. It's said that she knows things outside of Destiny's book, but people aren't sure what that could mean exactly. Dalek Caan pities her somewhat, as he was driven mad from super-awareness.
  • While she can be easy to get along with if you are kind to her, the ruder members of the pantheon tend to stay away after they discovered what she did to a traffic cop who pulled her over... For this reason, she is the only god in the pantheon that Roscoe P Coltrane absolutely refuses to tackle despite the fact she Drives Like Crazy.
  • The Trollkaiger once attempted to trap her residence, believing she was too crazy to realize who had pranked her. This led to her "going sane" briefly to work out who did it, and sending the entire team to the Pantheon's mental hospital for several months straight to recover.
  • The other Endless have been asked multiple times what the event that turned her from Delight into Delirium was. None of them have commented on the subject.
  • The only other deities/personifications she (usually) likes on a consistent basis are the other members of the Endless. Deadpool seems to be fond of her due to his own insanity, but sometimes it's too much even for him. The Merc with a Mouth hopes that she can put in a good word for him with her big sister, Death, who he is hopelessly in love with. Delirium, for her part, is ambivalent. On the one hand, she likes the chimichangas he constantly drops in her realm, but on the other, the chimichangas also tend to turn into butterflies, start crying, or wander around if she forgets to eat them.

    Ice King
The Ice King, God of Power at the Price of One's Sanity (A Biiiig Nerd, King of Ice, Simon Petrikov, Simple Simon)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Ice_King_6609.png
Simon Petrikov
  • Intermediate God (Greater God if he ever uses the full extent of his powers, Quasideity after turning back to Simon)
  • Symbol: His crown, or a lightning bolt made of ice
  • Theme Song: I Remember You
  • Alignment: True Neutral or Chaotic Neutral with shades of Neutral Good (straight-up Neutral Good as Simon)
  • Portfolio: Ice and wind powers granted to him by a crown that took his memories, Ax-Crazy Anti-Villain, Wizard Eyes, Butt-Monkey, Cloud Cuckoolander, kidnapping princesses so he can marry them, Dark and Troubled Past, Not Evil, Just Mental, knowing ninjitsu and how to play drums, Wizard Beard that grants flight, aging 'til the sun blows up, more effective as Finn and Jake's ally than as their enemy, left-handed writer, having all of his comedic quirks forced into a Cerebus Retcon, seriously needing a hug, Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain
  • Domains: Ice, Magic, Misery, Love, Insanity
  • Heralds: King Man, The Ancient Sleeping Magi of Life Giving, Abracadaniel
  • Allies:
  • Special Relationship: GOLB (as that's where Betty currently is)
  • Odd Friendship with: Asura
  • Enemies: The Lich, Laharl, Etna, Lord Tirek
  • Dislikes: Lumpy Space Princess
  • On speaking terms with: Flame Princess (because she destroyed his kingdom, but that was ultimately Finn's fault)
  • Opposes: Prince Hans
  • Opposed by: Princess Bubblegum (not Simon, though, which he essentially is nowadays), Fiona, Shrek
  • Ice King appeared in the House of Royalty, and had managed to kidnap Princess Bubblegum. While Finn and Jake were initially shocked on how long it was since the last time he attempted that, they were able to stop him. Ice King was then banned from the House of Royalty, though Bubblegum is the only one who antagonizes him. That said, it's not as much anymore after he "broke up" with her and he seems to have since lost interest in kidnapping her. It sort of helps that by then, he's become more friendly with Finn and Jake.
  • With the crown on, Ice King has numerous powers pertaining to his element. He can cast ice lightning to freeze or strike targets, summon blizzards at will to cover the land in snow, create various weapons or structures out of ice, and animate beings of ice and snow, like the Ice-o-pede and snowman soldiers. He can also sense when someone is tampering with the snow and/or ice around the Ice Kingdom, though it isn't known if he can do the same for snow outside it. Outside of cryokinesis, the Ice King can also fly by using his beard, parting and flapping it like a pair of wings to stay aloft. And unlike other Ice-related beings, he can withstand high temperatures, even hanging around someplace as hot as the Fire Kingdom without a heat suit or flame shield. That said, the intense heat would still negate his powers, and very humid areas hamper his ability to freeze stuff, too.
  • Ice King possesses a power called Wizard Eyes, which allows him to see different planes of existence, albeit with no control over what he is able to view at any given time. As a result, he often sees strange things that most others can't, such as odd-looking creatures and phantoms native to a dimension known as the Spirit World. This ability makes it hard for him to distinguish the things that actually happen and the strange things only his eyes see.
  • He's often seen in the House of Beast, trying to teach Greninja the Ice Ninja art of Fridjitzu.
    • Speaking of that, given that the art was easily learned by Finn and Jake (at least temporarily; they didn't have enough time to commit the incantations and hand positions to memory), there have been those who tried to sneak into Ice King's temple to try and steal his book Ninjas of the Ice: The Art of Fridjitzu. But the chamber of Frozen Blades in which they're hidden in along with other ninja weaponry and memorabilia. isn't easily found, and after the first break-in attempt (where he happened to be inside the chamber practicing), he's asked to have the book transferred to the Treasury, given the surprising amount of attention it draws.
  • In regards to musical talent, he's best with drums, decent with the keyboard, and probably at least knowledgable with a couple others. His singing is also at least good enough for Marceline.
  • After the mishap with Scorcher, he's not hiring any hitmen unless it's just to simply hit targets.
  • While someone like Ice King would normally be ignored by Asura, he's gained the sympathy of the Destructor, as they were both people who would (emphasis on "would") protect and save the ones they love, even if it meant sacrificing their own sanity. Ice King pays little mind to this Commonality Connection, but he's at least glad he's on Asura's good side. And this is more solidified as Simon.
  • At first, he was in opposition of Pinkie Pie, because of his past experiences with another Party God. Then, he found out she was friends with a princess, and pretended to be her friend to get close to Twilight. Eventually, Ice King realized that Pinkie was completely different from Party God, and truly did become her friend. She can often be seen with him in his more somber moments.
  • Ice King dotes on the penguin gods in the Pantheon, though they often get annoyed when he calls them "Gunter".
  • Due to his magical potential on par with Kishin Asura, he's a prime target of Lord Tirek, as his naivety and suppressed power make him a dangerous catalyst for Tirek's rampages.
  • Some similarities between him and Gollum have been drawn. Both have a special "object of affection" that they have a nickname for ("princess" for Betty, "precious" for the One Ring), and have a past identity that they've mostly forgotten about (Simon for Ice King, and Smeagol for Gollum).
  • The Teen Titans have also seen him as similar to someone they know, specifically someone by the name of Mumbo. Both have blue skin and white hair, both even sound the same, and are both magic users with similar origins.
  • There was one time when Homer Simpson dressed up as Ice King.
  • He has made several attempts to get his fanfiction characters Fionna and Cake in the Pantheon. First, he tried to Virtuous to summon them, only to be told that characters that don't really exist can't be brought to life. Then, he asked Maxwell to draw them up, only to get an ogre princess and a slice of cake (said princess and her husband Shrek still hold that against him to this day). Finally, he tried to hijack Supergirl's position for them to take, but it went rather badly.
  • Met his Distaff Counterpart, Queen Elsa, not because he wanted to kidnap her (He prefers princesses, not queens), but because she reminds her of his fanfic avatar Ice Queen. He was amazed at her singing voice, and wants to do a jam session with her. And to keep things friendly between them, he won't harm her sister Anna, and would oppose Hans for his attempt at the Arendelle royals.
  • Ever since that time Ice King ran into Spongebob in Bikini Bottom, the two of them have been seen hanging out more, usually sharing anecdotes about their respective pets.
  • Many deities were shocked to see Simon regain his sanity at the end of his ultimate adventure. While in the Pantheon, he is now able to change between his human and Ice King form at will with his sanity intact.
    • That said, he still mostly acts like himself, only with a better moral compass. When asked why as Simon, he stated that since he's not "mode locked" into Ice King anymore, he feels free to indulge into some of that persona's desires now that he can turn back anytime he wants. And theoretically, he can use Fridjitzu even as Simon, so it's not like hell be completely defenseless.
    • He is now searching for a way to save his fiancee, Betty, after she became the new GOLB to save Ooo, especially when he heard that GOLB ascended into the Pantheon. That said, given Betty's previous obsession with trying to save him and how well that went, he knows not to go too far with it. Besides, with everyone in the Pantheon as Gods, he has all the time in the world.
