A New Wish is generally as fun and lighthearted as its parent series, but just like it, it isn't afraid to give you a bit of a scare every now and then. The fact that one of the head writers of Infinity Train happens to be working on this show should tell you enough…
- The episode "Fearless" is probably the scariest episode to come out of the franchise, possibly even more than "Lights Out." It's about Hazel wishing that her friend Jasmine was fearless, which ends up causing her fears to manifest as rather disturbing copies of her. The way it all starts is that after making her wish, Hazel notices that there is a Jasmine clone outside of her class, so she excuses herself and follows her, only for the clone to grow a spider body and the other fears to show up. The fears then proceed to Speak in Unison with Creepy Monotone and Hazel finds out that she cannot wish them away. At the end of the episode, after Hazel manages to defeat Jasmine's fears, one final problem shows up — something that claims to be fear itself possesses Jasmine and directly calls out Hazel's fears.
- "28 Puddings Later" is a straight up Zombie Apocalypse episode, where everyone at Hazel's school gets addicted to chocolate pudding and, when the pudding gets erased and they go into withdrawal, they start chasing after it and also after anyone who may have it. It doesn't help that for some reason, the lights at Hazel's school conveniently go out as this starts happening.
- While Dale Dimmadome has already been established as a Rich Bastard who doesn't even care about his own son, "Lost and Founders Day" shows just how ruthless and callous he can truly be. Not only does he give all of Dev's classmates (who are, mind you, between the ages of 10 and 11) watches that give them electric shocks when they start asking questions, but when he finds out that there's an anomaly who for some reason doesn't need to buy anything from him — who turns out to be none other than Hazel herself, thanks to her having Cosmo and Wanda by her side, though he thankfully doesn't find out due to Dev's interference — he unleashes a bunch of robots on the park so he can capture her and “study her”. Even one of his Au-Pairs calls him out on this.
- "Patty Possum's Party Playground" is about Hazel wishing that an animatronic at Winn's favorite Suck E. Cheese's establishment came to life. Of course, anyone who has been following pop culture since the 2010s might know why that could be a bad idea. Indeed, as soon as Hazel and her friends try to leave, Patty turns into a creepy Yandere who traps them inside the establishment and then chases them around the jungle gym that for some reason happens to have tally marks and human bones inside of it as well. Even after they sort it out, Patty ends the episode by dragging the recurring Timmy lookalike inside to “befriend” him. However, it's nullified by the fact that he gets along with her as they're shown together in the season 1 finale.
- In the original series, fairies exploding into confetti from not using magic enough was a joke. In "Fairy for a Day", the way that the Nmusic Phairy is doing a tribute to the fairies that suffered that fate in the past year implies that it's fatal, which is further implicated by Peri suffering from it when Dev takes over Fairy World.
- Speaking of, when Peri starts suffering from magical back up, it's shown that even the symptoms are more disturbing. Aside from his body being inflated, he also has a green face, he appears to be borderline delirious, as he mistakes his parents for Dev when they find him and he vomits up rainbow liquid, in a way that almost looks akin to vomiting blood. As if that wasn't enough, when Cosmo and Wanda first find him like this, he is crawling on all fours and has dilated pupils, which, combined with his round body in this state, makes him look like a baby, and considering he spent the entire original series as a baby, it's almost like the show is reminding us that this character we watched ever since he was a newborn is now suffering from this horrible, potentially fatal condition. Thankfully, he heals from it, but still.
- We get reminded why Da Rules are so important when Dev, having taken over Fairy World with Irep in "The Battle for Big Wand", has all godkids assigned Anti-Fairies. Irep outright turns the world's cows to ash when the lactose-intolerant Dev decides that he won't tolerate lactose anymore, couples start getting together and breaking up left and right, undead pets...
- The fact that Peri is terrified of Vicky when she shows up in this series, having thought she was just a childhood nightmare, makes some of the original series a lot Harsher in Hindsight. Peri was traumatized by Vicky as a baby.
