"What the hell is this?"

You thought the Maze was bad? Well, in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, what's outside of it will make you want to go back.

  • The Cranks take Body Horror up to eleven and way beyond. They're basically zombies, but those in the advanced stages of the disease seem to have either roots or oversized blackish veins growing out of their skin and often gouge their own eyes out to stop their hallucinations.
    • The deaths of Winston and Jack. Jack is thrown off an escalator by cranks in a deleted scene as Frypan tries to save him. What makes it bad is you can hear his screams get cut off, implying the fall killed him. Winston gets scratched pretty badly by a crank and becomes infected. After an unspecified period of time has passed, he’s unable to walk, begins to cough up blood, and is in so much pain he tries to shoot himself using the gun.
  • Teresa's altered backstory. She was raised by a single mother who caught the Flare when Teresa was young. No one came to help them and Teresa didn't know what to do, so she locked her mother in her room while the disease progressed, hoping she'd somehow get better. Eventually, her mother called for her and said that the hallucinations had stopped... and when Teresa opened the door, she found out they'd stopped because her mother had ripped out her eyes. Makes Teresa betraying the others to WCKD a lot more justified.
