Nightmare Fuel / Ice Age: Continental Drift

• The earthquake that separates Manny from his family. It starts as a loud rumble and birds scattering from the trees.
  Sid: Whoa! Excuse me.
  Diego: I don't think that was you.
  • A crack then rips through the ice right between Manny and Ellie. As Manny carefully approaches, the ground breaks apart, separating Manny from his family as the gap becomes wider by the second!
  • Manny tries to jump across the gap to get to his family, only to get knocked to by Diego, who tells Manny his attempt would've been in vain.
  Diego: Manny! (Tackles him)
  Manny: DIEGO!
  Diego: You never would've made it! (Manny looks down to see that the gap has become a huge, deep trench.)
• Captain Gutt in general. He might be even more evil and threatening than Soto!
  • His dangerously sharp claws, which is particularly unnerving since he's an ape (which don't have claws).
    Manny: I have a little paunch, too, but I wouldn't name myself after it.
    Gutt: (laughs mockingly) Very funny. But that's not how I got my name. (brandishes claws) These got me my name!
    Sid: I don't get it.
    Gutt: No? Alright, then. (slices through Sid's upper ropes, making him dangle upside down) Lemme give ya a visual aid. I just gently press here... (pokes Sid's belly)
    Sid: Hahah! Stop! That tickles!
    Gutt: ...and go down like this. (moves his finger down to Sid's chin; Sid's laughter is promptly replaced with a gasp of horror)
    Squint: And then your innards become your outards! (laughs)
    Sid: Uh, I still don't get it. ^note  In this case, Sid may just be lying and pretending to still not understand Gutt's monicker. He's so terrified that he tries to play dumb.
  • The way he suddenly emerges from the fog and grabs Peaches, holding a dagger near her neck! Seriously, Gutt was perfectly willing to murder Manny's family for no reason but just to get back at him. And if it weren't for Louis, Gutt would've won right there!
    Gutt: Welcome home, Daddy!
    Peaches: LET GO OF ME!
    (Manny gasps in horror)
    Gutt: What are the odds? We were just talking about you! You like the new ship? I call her Sweet Revenge!
    Silas: And look here! We've got the catch du jour!
    (Ellie is tied up with vines to the mast of Gutt's ship.)
    Manny: Ellie!
    Ellie: I'm alright! (glares at Gutt) Let my daughter go!
    (Gutt laughs)
    Manny: It's okay. He wants me, and he's gonna get me.
    Diego: Huh? (notices a weak Shira struggling to her feet)
    Gutt: Sacrificing yourself for your daughter! How touching! How predictable. Now come and get her!
    (Flynn and Raz lay down a plank bridge for Manny to cross to the next ship)
    Raz: G'day, mate!
    Flynn: Remember us? We're the bad guys!
    Manny: Alright. Let them go!
    Gutt: (chuckles darkly) I don't think so. You destroyed everything I had! I'm just returning the favor.
    Manny: NO! (tries to charge at Gutt, but the crew rapidly lassoes him.)
    Gutt: I warned you...
  • During his final battle with Manny, Gutt swings his sword at the mammoth, barely missing his eye.
  • His abusive treatment of Shira also qualifies. The first time she fails him, he viciously rebukes her and strips her of her first mate rank. When Shira makes a Heel–Face Turn and stops Gutt from catching his stolen ship, Gutt grabs her by the neck and delivers this chilling line:
    Captain Gutt: When this ends, I'll have a tiger's skin hanging from my wall. I don't care whose.
  • Later, we see her visibly tired, injured and struggling to get up. What the hell did Gutt do to her?
• The Sirens; especially when they flicker between their illusions and their true form.
  • For a particularly horrifying example, the Siren that lures Captain Gutt to his well-deserved but nonetheless unsettling end. Her form flickers just as mentioned above, but ends up as a nightmarish merger of her Siren face and her illusion face. The end result is terrifying◊.
    • The Siren then grabs Gutt by the face and yanks him into her shell to start eating him alive, with the appearance of at least two back fins in the surrounding water indicating that other Sirens are coming to join in feasting on their newest victim...
• While the log scene was undoubtedly funny, the tail end of it has Sid's family very nearly hitting Peaches with the log while Manny was unaware. Luckily, Diego's quick thinking stops this from happening.
