Nightmare Fuel / Archie's Weird Mysteries

Go To

  • "Attack of the Killer Spuds:" Space potatoes turn the whole population in Riverdale (besides Archie) into potato zombies, including Jughead. The monotone voices the clones use along with the blissed out expressions from the potatoes trapping people in a blissful euphoria doesn't help.
    • The repeated shots of the Great Potato hidden within the shadows of the TV station. All we gradually see of it are its red eyes slowly opening as more people in Riverdale are converted.
  • "Fleas Release Me:"
    • Reggie is locked in a jail cell, and can only look on in horror as the sheriff transforms into a werewolf, which begins violently throwing itself at the cell door, attempting to bash through it to get at the cowering Reggie.
    • The fact that Archie realizes that the sheriff was the werewolf when he realizes that one of the criteria needed is a pentagram, a five pointed star like the sheriff's badge.
  • "Mega Mall of Horrors:" The whole episode, really. A man who became a demon after making a Deal with the Devil lures teenagers into his mall with hypnotic music, gives them store credit cards, and turns them into mannequins (which are still aware) once they max out of the cards. The mannequins are eventually sent to Hell, and the music erases everyone's memories of the victims, making it seem like they never even existed.
    • The demon begins his transformation into his true form by melting out of his human guise, ranting in a hideously distorted voice about his past as the biggest shopaholic who ever lived before he sold his soul.
  • "Ship of Ghouls:" While the Ghost Pirates are a bit cheesy, they are shown killing a deep sea diver on-screen in a flashback during the Exposition Dump. What could be more terrifying is how Reggie slowly descends into a maelstrom of greed, obsessed with the treasure. Also, how do our heroes get rid of the pirates? Technically, they don't — Reggie just happened to be trying to open the chest in a spot due for an earthquake, opening up the seabed into a lava vein. The chest falls in, and the pirates dive after it, burning themselves alive...and presumably Reggie would have done the same thing if Archie and Betty hadn't gotten him away.
  • "Green-Eyed Monster:" Dorsa takes Archie to her underwater lair, and mentions that she has had a few previous "husbands." When Archie asks what happened to them, Dorsa casually points to a pile of bones ("they sort of... wear out") in the corner of the room as she advances on him with a pair of shackles.
  • "Halloween of Horror:" Count Medlock turning everyone into vampires, especially Smithers.
  • "Little Chock'Lit Shoppe of Horrors:" The Stanley 9000, from its Faux Affably Evil Machine Monotone voice to the recreation of the infamous lip reading scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey to its descent into Insane Troll Logic and finally Kill All Humans.
Stanley 9000: Yesterday, I tried to make your diner more efficient by getting the customers in and out quickly. But I finally realized that the most inefficient part of the operation were the customers.
    Pop Tate: Are you crazy?!
Stanley 9000: No, think about it. They're too slow, too hungry, too messy. Humans are a waste of time. If we get rid of the customers, the restaurant will run so much smoother.
Pop Tate: What are you doing with my friends?!
Stanley 9000: I called them early this morning by synthesizing your voice. "Hey, Betty, I want you to come preview my new moving food booth!" And here they are. From now on, when customers come in, I won't recycle their trash, I'll recycle them. My new trash compactor will make everything neat and tidy. Talk about efficiency.
  • In "Zombies of Love", Veronica uses magic salt she got from a charmer to get Archie to become "Mr. Perfect", despite the woman's warnings to be careful what she wishes. She likes it at first, until he starts following her and waiting for her all the time. He's also starts looking much worse, due to not eating or sleeping. Veronica can't take it anymore and tries to hide from him. The charmer tells Veronica that if she doesn't ring the bells in time to undo the spell on Archie, he will never eat or sleep again, and he will die and come back as an actual zombie who will follow her forever. Because Veronica forgot the salt shaker at Pop's, she now has a huge group devoted to her who even try to stop her from ringing the bells. Only by getting Archie to ring the bells himself (since he would do anything for her) does she manage to return everyone to normal.
  • Some of the posters used to open an episode had some disturbing imagery.
