The Mrs. Hawking play series: Played more or less straight with Nathaniel and Arthur. Deconstructed with the Colonel, whose decency and good intentions are shown to fail to make up for the harm he did to Mrs. Hawking.
Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is the only character in the entire piece who manages to be decent, kindly, and sane all at once. The far more cynical Anti-Hero title character lampshades this very early on and says that Anthony will eventually learn that the world is a cruel and unjust place, but when Anthony does eventually get that message, his response is to break unjust laws, rather than give into Sweeney's nihilism and despair. The show ends on a bit of a Bolivian Army Ending for Anthony and his deeply psychologically damaged love interest Johanna, but if they do make it, Anthony's exactly the kind of stable guy Johanna needs in her life after escaping from her perverted adoptive father.
You Can't Take It With You has an impressive group of exceedingly kind-hearted individuals. This includes the entire Sycamore family, three members who work for them but are family in all but name, the older daughter's new fiancé, the younger daughter's dance instructor, and the Russian princess he brings over to their house. The dance instructor veers a bit into being a Jerk with a Heart of Gold due to his complaining and Innocently Insensitive attitude, but is generally good natured enough to count.
