Theory of a Deadman is a Canadian post-grunge band hailing from Vancouver. Their first (and self-titled) album was released in 2002, with their second album (Gasoline) coming in 2005. But it wouldn't be until their third album, Scars & Souvenirs, off the momentum of the singles "Bad Girlfriend" and "Not Meant to Be", when they got propelled into the mainstream. They also contributed several songs to the game Fahrenheit.

Albums:

  • Theory of a Deadman (2002)
  • Gasoline (2005)
  • Scars & Souvenirs (2008)
  • The Truth Is... (2011)
  • Savages (2014)
  • Wake Up Call (2017)
  • Say Nothing (2020)
  • Dinosaur (2023)

Theory of a Deadman provides examples of:

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: The lyrics of "Gentleman".
  • Humans Are Bastards: "Savages."
We're all humans, fighting human nature to stay alive
We are predators teaching our children to be just like us, fear and hate like us
Will we ever realize we're just savages?
  • Lousy Lovers Are Losers: "The Truth Is... (I Lied About Everything)", is a Break Up Song with the singer giving a "The Reason You Suck" Speech to his toxic girlfriend, including insulting her sexual prowess:
Bad in bed, you suck at giving head
You've gone and got me thinking I'd be better off dead!
  • Misogyny Song: Played straight with both "Bitch Came Back" and "Gentleman".
  • Revenge Ballad: "Little Smirk" fits the mold, with the narrator detailing all the over-the-top ways he ruined his girlfriend's life after catching her cheating on him, not the least of which is kidnapping her baby.
  • Self-Deprecation: "Bad Girlfriend" is about Tyler Connolly's ex-wife and the circumstances behind how they met. The lyrics, most notably the verse "My girlfriend's a dick magnet", were actually co-written by her.
