Go To

The Emperor Richie Dan is the emcee persona of reggae dancehall Singer-Songwriter Richard Rodney Gittens, best known for his Special Guest appearances in UK Garage music as A Wild Rapper Appears! and as a member of the group Garage All Stars with DJ Merlin, MC Creed and Mc Kie.

In 2015, after almost two decades of singles and extended plays, he released his debut album Life in Him, a soft reggae extended play full of Christian faith-based songs.

Tropes

  • AcCENT upon the Wrong SylLABle: Although Richie has a Caribbean accent (or, at least, Gittens imitates one, perhaps), holding specific notes when he sings sets off this trope.
    • "I jus' wanna be yuh ma-aaaaaaaaaaaannnn ... wuh-mon."
    • "Call it fa-ee ... or wha'chawaaaannnn."
  • Boastful Rap: When Richie's doing UK garage, as par for that genre's night club emcees.
And if you wanna take a chance, I'm right over 'ere, now
Listen to what di badman saying
  • Casanova Wannabe: Richie's most famous Special Guest appearances on UKG are songs of his declaring his love, but the lyrics sound desperate to the point of begging, and the Stylistic Suck singing Richie performs with doesn't help.
  • Genre-Prolific Creator: Reggae, dancehall, UK garage and Christian toasting. Ironically, wasn't at all Christian during his time in the Ambiguously Christian UK garage genre.
  • God Is Love Song: His album Life In Him has songs around this.
  • Singer Namedrop: Crossed with Theme Tune, "Ready For the Dan Man" is Richie's fanfare where his nickname is dropped throughout.
