I know my ex-boyfriend tropes, oh he does it every time:
- Amicable Exes: "Drop Dead Gorgeous" is about the narrator talking about her ex-boyfriend's various faults such as lying and walking too fast but still sees him as a friend and attractive.
- The Cover Changes the Gender: Averted in their cover of Tubeway Army's "Are Friends Electric?".
- Cover Version: Covered "Are Friends Electric?" by Tubeway Army.
- Face on the Cover:
- The cover of Republica shows the five band members, seen from the shoulders up, inside a red star. The single "Drop Dead Gorgeous" uses a picture of Saffron's face, looking up at something unseen.
- The cover of Speed Ballads is a headshot of vocalist Saffron. A version of the same image is used for the single "From Rush Hour With Love".
- The cover of single "New York" is a head-and-shoulders picture of Saffron, with the city skyline behind her.
- The cover of EP Hallelujah shows the left half of Saffron's face.
- Male Band, Female Singer: The rest of the band members are male but Saffron is the vocalist.
- Music Video Overshadowing: "Drop Dead Gorgeous". Song: About a volatile on-off relationship, but the singer always forgives her partner's lies because he's "drop dead gorgeous". Video: The band plays in a futuristic-looking house while singer Saffron trashes the place in a manner more typical of videos associated with angry breakup songs.
- Pun-Based Title: "From Rush Hour With Love" is a pun on the James Bond tale From Russia with Love.
- Staggered Zoom: One of two different music videosnote for "Ready to Go" uses this effect, along with rapidly zooming in-then-right-back-out, continuously throughout most of its entire runtime.
- It's a crack, I'm back, yeah
I'm standing on the rooftops having it
Baby, I'm ready to go
I'm back and ready to go
From the rooftops, shout it out
Shout it out
