Reiwa Jidai Koukishin ~ Otherworldly Paradox

Go To

Reiwa Jidai Koukishin ~ Otherworldly Paradox is a fanmade Touhou Project music album made by the circle Paradise of Boundaries. It contains twelve tracks, six of them original, the other six arranged from ZUN's music, along with a short story where each track is matched to a chapter, just like the albums in ZUN's Music Collection.

Otherworldly Paradox focuses on fanmade character Seiko Ayano, a human from the Outside World who follows Sumireko Usami's social media. One night, Seiko falls asleep and finds herself in Gensokyo, much like how Sumireko can travel to Gensokyo in her dreams. A hermit called Nama offers to guide Seiko around and help her find Sumireko.

Links to download the album and read its booklet (available in both Spanish and English) can be found in this post from the circle's social media. The album can also be listened to on this playlist.

This album contains examples of:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Sumireko arrives to save Seiko just as Okina is preparing her strongest attack.
  • Dream Within a Dream: After getting attacked at the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Seiko gets tired and goes to sleep under a tree. Nama is intrigued that Seiko can fall asleep while already being in a dream, and that this didn't simply cause her to wake up back in the Outside World.
  • Evil All Along: Nama turns out to be Okina in disguise, who took Seiko to a fake Gensokyo in order to test her and turn her into her new servant.
  • Flechette Storm: When Seiko tries to enter the Scarlet Devil Mansion, she's greeted at the door by a barrage of knives aimed at her position.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: One of the album's original characters, Nama, starts to seem suspicious as the plot goes on. However, while she is indeed the villain, she also turns out to not be a new character at all, and is instead just a disguised Okina.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Nama knowing Seiko's name despite the fact the latter never introduced herself is what confirms to Seiko that Youmu was telling the truth about Nama manipulating her.
  • Musical Nod: This album's arrangement of "Unlocated Hell" contains fragments of other themes towards the end, in order: "Centennial Festival for Magical Girls", "Illusionary White Traveler", "Frozen Capital of Eternity" and "Returning Home From the Underground".
  • Musical Spoiler: The fact that the track to which The Reveal chapter is matched is Okina's theme might tip off the audience before they start reading that said reveal is that Nama is actually a disguised Okina.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!: Okina throwing her strongest attack at Seiko and Sumireko (and missing) creates a gap allowing both of them to escape the fake Gensokyo.
  • Spanner in the Works: Youmu. She somehow finds and breaks into the fake Gensokyo, allowing her to take Seiko away and warn her about Nama's true identity and intentions.
  • Surveillance Station Slacker: When Seiko visits the Scarlet Devil Mansion, she finds that the guard at the entrance (implied to be Meiling) is dozing off.
  • We Will Meet Again: As Seiko and Sumireko escape, Okina declares that they have caught her attention and she will meet them both again.
  • Zener Cards: When Sumireko appears in the story, Zener cards come into the other characters' view before she shows herself.
