Trope it, trope it, trope it trope it:
- Broken Record: In "1901!".Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it
- Deliberately Monochrome: The cover of Alphabetical.
- The Edwardian Era: "1901" is a tribute to Belle Époque-era Paris. To quote the lead singer, "Paris in 1901 was better than it is now" ("now" being 2009).
- Epic Rocking: While split into two parts, "Love Like a Sunset" is 7:06 in total.
- Genre Mashup: Their music style is described as Indie Pop, Synth-Pop, Pop Rock and New Wave.
- Gratuitous Spanish: Ti Amo, which is Spanish for "I love you".
- Grief Song: Or Grief Album for Alpha Zulu, which was dedicated to their producer Philippe Zdar, who died in a fall.
- Indecipherable Lyrics: A lot of their songs fall under this trope. For some reason (possibly because of his French accent), Thomas Mars just doesn't tend to pronounce a lot of the words very clearly, and it isn't necessarily all of the lyrics that can't be understood. A lot of their songs tend to switch back and forth between words that are actually quite clear, and then phrases that are nearly impossible to understand unless you look up the lyrics. "1901" is a perfect example of this.
- Instrumental: The first part of "Love Like a Sunset".
- Named After Someone Famous: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, which is named after the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart but with his surname replaced with the band name.
- New Sound Album: Ti Amo was influenced by Italo Disco music.
- Reincarnation Romance: The music video for "Entertainment" depicts three different time periods: old Korea, North Korea (who can ever tell the time period there...), and modern South Korea. Several couples meet across the eras, but only a few of them work out in the end, and only after suffering.
- Self-Titled Album: Their fourth album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
- Special Guest: Ezra Koenig in "Tonight".
- Title by Year: "1901", which was the fifth Exposition Universelle in Paris.
