Pet Yeti (Music)
"The beauty of pursuing joy for joy's sake, in spite all the pain."
pet yeti is the solo project of Iain Gillespie (they/them), lyricist, bassist and vocalist of Bears in Trees. Their solo music has a much more electronic feel to it than the music of Bears in Trees, but the lyricism remains. The majority of their music is available on all streaming platforms, with the exception of their oldest music, which was released on Soundcloud, and some newer tracks that are exclusive to Bandcamp. They have released one EP, three singles and an album to all streaming platforms.

pet yeti includes examples of:

  • Overly Long Name: A staple of pet yeti tracks. The longest pet yeti title is 20 words long - the Bandcamp exclusive 'it's hard work keeping a house a home, but i am slowly proving to myself that i am worth it'. Another example is 'i'm not allowed in aquariums, i keep trying to get the fish to unionise'.
  • Sampling: Many pet yeti songs contain samples from media that Iain likes. Notable examples include 'comfort watching doctor who', which consists of Doctor Who quotes, and 'finally entering my flop era', which contains a sample from Frances Ha.
  • Spoken Word in Music: The vast majority of pet yeti songs consist of spoken poetry set to music.
