Mafumafu (Japanese: まふまふ, born 18 October 1991) is a Japanese male utaite, singer, songwriter, and general internet personality who performs video game live streams (primarily on Twitcast and YouTube) and podcasts, sometimes with a Virtual YouTuber avatar (since 2020).

One of the most popular utaite in Japan, Mafumafu began his online utaite career in December 2010, on Nico Nico Douga. He is notable for his very wide vocal range, and can sing with feminine voices. He is very well connected with other prominent utaite in Japan, and since 2014, he forms the After the Rain (ATR) musical duo with fellow utaite and close friend Soraru.

Though primarily an online singer much like other utaite, Mafumafu has made some live performances and tours. As an independent songwriter, Mafumafu has produced original Vocaloid songs since 2012, and has produced songs for many other individual projects. In 2020, he was commissioned to create a song for the Vocaloid-based Rhythm Game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! for the unit Nightcord at 25:00.

His personal avatar is an androgynous red-eyed, white-haired boy.

His official website can be found here. His official YouTube channel can be found here.

Tropes related to Mafumafu and his songs:

  • Cover Version: As an utaite, he began his career as a cover artist for Vocaloid songs and achieved fame through it. Even years later, he still covers Vocaloid songs along with making originals.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: He has a very sleek, androgynous appearance and a high singing voice to match it, That said, he can sing pretty damn high and screams in a number of his songs.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Mafumafu has an androgynous appearance in both his fictional avatar and his real life appearance, and his normal voice is a high-pitched feminine-leaning voice.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He has been close friends with fellow utaite Soraru going back years. During that time, they formed the group "After the Rain" where they record cover songs and release original music together.
  • Hikikomori: Mafumafu typically characterizes himself as a hikikomori in his online appearances.
  • Lethal Chef: Mafumafu has been known for making... questionable choices when making food for his friends, such as adding energy drink to Soraru's medicine curry. However, the ramen he made with Amatsuki, Sakata and Urata was 'pretty good' according to himself, and so he likely only becomes this trope when he isn't the person eating the food.
  • Scannable Man: Mafumafu's avatar/stage persona has a barcode on his cheek. Apparently, its code only registers an item worth 3 yen.
  • Teenage Death Songs:
    • "Revenge Syndrome" is about a bullied teenage girl having vivid revenge fantasies who eventually leaps out of her classroom window. However, it turns out to have been All Just a Dream.
    • "Kuyamu to Kaite Mirai/Composing the Future" is a lamentation on the cruelty and unfairness of life, the desire to disappear and the willpower to carry on in spite of those conflicts and emotions. All things considered, it's a fairly apt Image Song for Nightcord at 25:00 in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!.
  • Telephone Song: "Keitai Renwa/Cellphone Love Story" is a Break Up Song about a girl reflecting on how she and her lover are separated by their phones and her realization that she's falling out of love with him.
  • Virtual YouTuber: Mafumafu received an animated Live2D version of his avatar in August 2020.
